And how is that less respectful than refusing to look at or address your opponent? Is it less respectful than looking down with a sneer on your face rather than speaking to your opponent? Is it respectful to try to walk away when your opponent is attempting to shake your hand after the debate? I don’t know if you were watching the same debate as as I was but in the one I saw there could be absolutely no doubt that Obama was the only participant who made any effort at all to treat his opponent with respect. You can argue substance if you want and you can disagree with what Obama said but on this point the answer is so obvious that any argument otherwise is bordering ridiculous.

McCain’s been through a lot tougher opponents than Obama and has had to deal with a lot more than Obama can throw at him.
Yeah, he’s been attacked by the Bush family mafia and their ugly campaigning. Obama is a pussy cat compared to how McCain was treated by Bush and his family and the conservative establishment.

McCain knows who is important…the voters – and that’s who he addressed. Neither candidate was trying to get the other candidate to vote for him; he has to convince the American people.

And apparently Obama is doing a much better job of convincing people than McCain, who try as he might, cannot escape the simple and indisputable fact that he voted with George W. Bush 90% of the time for these eight long, dark years of incompetence, deception, and dishonor.
He supported the invasion of Iraq, either because he was bamboozled by the trumped-up evidence of WMD’s or because he believes in the cause of blood for oil. He said it would be a cakewalk. He said we would be greeted as liberators. He said there was no history of sectarian violence between Sunni and Shia. He was dead wrong. When he was proved wrong, he lied and said he’d predicted from the beginning it would be long and hard.
By supporting the invasion of Iraq, he waved the white flag of surrender at Al Quaeda in Afghanistan, and invited them in to a region where there had never been an Al Quaeda presence. Now he claims to have a “secret plan” for capturing Bin Laden.
He told reporters that Al Quaeda was operating from bases inside Iran and had to be corrected by Joe Lieberman. He went on to confuse Sunni and Shia numerous times after that.
He says it’s fine by him if we stay in Iraq for 100 years or more. And then tries to deny that’s what he meant.
He shows a cavalier disregard for national security and indeed our entire future by choosing a running mate for purely political reasons, someone who is so obviously unqualified to be vice-president, let alone president, that she is a national embarrassment and a genuine potential threat to our safety.
He repeats the mantra “the fundamentals of the economy are strong” again and again, then flip-flops and declares we’re in the biggest financial crisis since WWII. He admits to not knowing much about the economy and then tries to persuade us he rode to the rescue, when all he did was make the situation worse by injecting partisan politics into the negotiations.
He’s a drama queen who will do anything to seize control of the news cycle, who has no compunction about lying himself into office, and who is as complicit in the two massive failures of this Administration, foreign and domestic, as anyone can be: the colossal strategic blunder that is Iraq and the horrendous financial mess caused by lack of regulation–a cause he has championed his entire career as “McCain the Deregulator.”
Vote for him? You’d have to be crazy.

Yeah that was pretty underhanded of Obama calling him John. He knew that McCain couldn’t call him “Barack” or “Barry” without being accused of racism.

McCain did everything but call Obama “boy” in that debate. He was contemptuous and disdainful.

I do love how the Media (except for Fox) called McCain out on not looking at Osama, but didn’t call out Osama for the miss use of his name. He even once called him a different name, didn’t he?

Speaking of independents, I watched the debates on CNN, with the little graph at the bottom. Every time either candidate went on the attack, instead of sticking to their own policy, the “independent” line dropped. That was for both candidates.

I don’t have a side. I can’t even vote. I do believe that a person would either have to be in denial or just outright lying to say that McCain’s disdain for Obama was not blatantly obvious.

Middle of the road actually. Conservative leaning culturally (against abortion and gay marriage). Liberal leaning fiscally. Anti-war, anti-gun, pro-honesty. My liberal friends would be very surprised to hear that my liberal bias is so clear.

I just had to laugh at that. And the whole bracelet bit. McCain talks about his bracelet, and then Obama exclaims “I have one too!” I mean come ON! Am I the only one who had visions of a frazzled Obama manager dashing about backstage squaking: “Barack needs a bracelet! Can some one PLEASE find Barack a bracelet!”
