Dobson's nonendorsement endorsement of McCain

Tuesday October 7, 2008

Categories: Christianity, Politics

So, Dobson finally endorsed as much as he legally could McCain on his radio program:

A clear go-ahead signal to millions of evangelicals across the country from Dr. James Dobson, founder and chairman of FocDr James Dobson founder and chairman of Focus on the Family who radio program and newsletters reach millions of evangelicals approves a vote for the Republican ticket of John McCain and Sarah Palinus on the Family, to vote for the GOP ticket. It couldn't have come at a better time given more polls showing a Democratic lead on the eve of the next presidential debate, tomorrow night in Nashville.

[...]

"It's probably obvious which of the two major candidates' views are most palatable to those of us who embrace a pro-life, pro-family worldview," Dobson said.

"While I will not endorse either candidate this year, (in fact, I've only endorsed one presidential nominee in my life) I can say that I am now supportive of Senator John McCain and his bid for the presidency."

A clear go-ahead? Who in their right mind needs Dobson's consent to vote for a candidate? The MSM really think we're a bunch of mindless sheep who need someone to tell us who to vote for. Some of those sheep have chosen Obama and doing so doesn't make them any less Evangelical (yes, it's true, you can be Christian and vote for a Democrat). The LA Times seems to have forgotten that there is a sizable portion of Evangelicals who have decided that his withdrawal from Iraq outweighs his support of infanticide (for babies who survive an abortion), even though he is pro-war in Afghanistan. Evidently, they've bought into the notion that he plans to reduce the number of abortions under his presidency (but before Evangelicals and Catholics cast that vote, they might want to ask him if he plans to continue Bush's policy of prohibiting the use taxpayer money to international groups that promote forced abortions and they might ask him if his healthcare plan includes abortions).

i hope that you're wrong, moonshadow. i read that story early tuesday, and it's a sad thing. certainly the country can't continue on a path that so many people believe to be in the wrong direction. the nation mired in two wars that have gone on longer than most, people losing their jobs, losing their homes, not being able to afford the health care they need - it takes a toll on the nation's psyche and completely devastates the individual. keep the faith and stay hopeful.

keep the faith and stay hopeful.

Thanks, I'll try. I'm not of good use to anybody otherwise.

The Pro-Life Vote put a president in the White House that went on to fight unjust wars killing thousands of innocent civilian and troops in the name of oil and global power. Now, we are told to vote for the guy who sang "bomb bomb bomb Iran" at a fund raiser and threatened to annihilate North Korea.

It is sad when you are lied to by those you trust. But when Jesus says he is our shepherd he really doesn't mean we ought to think like sheep. We need to use the mind he gave us to think for ourselves.

Oh, Dobson gave his approval to vote for McCain?

Yawn.

Since I'm single with no kids, I don't even listen to him for that kind of advice. When did he become a political advisor?

He's not my pastor. I don't read his books or listen to his programs. I don't wear a WWDD (What Would Dobson Do?) bracelet.

He should stick to advising parents on how to burp their babies.

I think that the words Christians or believers should have been used instead of Evangelicals. Those who believe in the bible and want to show their faith in what God says. Knowing that our government should be set up with honorable men and women who will uphold his laws and commandments. Yes, those commandments are in both the new and old testaments. God does not favor war or the death of the innocent. We are to pray for those in government and the rulers of the land. Wisdom from God is the key and answer for this country and all countries. We are blessed to have freedom to speak our opinions and the right to fight for those freedoms that was instated by the founders of this land. I want Godly standards.

Thanks
