One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1. She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life. A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments.
The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others.
Through it, I have seen people reach out

The MSM didn’t have to do anything to trip up Palin. They were questions about her record and McCain’s campaign staff. Some of the voters want their candidates to actually have a clue.
posted October 4, 2008 at 2:27 pm
So….when will Biden be expected to get a clue? With as many errors as Palin during the debate, I wonder.
posted October 4, 2008 at 4:43 pm
It’s laughable to suggest that Biden’s gaffes are anywhere near on the order of Palin’s. I think Biden could probably name half a dozen Supreme Court decisions he disagreed with off the top of his head and explain precisely why; would never breezily suggest that as v-p he’d like to overstep the Constitutionally-bound responsibilities of his office; could actually name his principal’s legislative achievements and other efforts in support of his policies; just might be able to name a few of the magazines or newspapers he reads on a regular basis; would answer a question about when the use of nuclear weaponry might be necessary instead of dodging it, etc. etc.
The reason Palin does badly in interviews is because an interviewer can ask follow up questions that drill down into a person’s knowledge base and require specific examples as evidence for general assertions. Palin has shown that she’s totally at sea in that situation. Given that the world will come at her with hundreds of unexpected developments and tough situations and crises that require her to think on her feet, especially if she ever occupied the Oval Office, I think she ought to demonstrate that she can handle a few questions from a persistent interviewer now and then. If she can’t take the heat, she should get out of the kitchen and go home to her cushy job in Alaska.

Poor Sarah, always the victim. Everyone’s picking on her even though she’d doing her gosh darn best (big wink and a squint). You’d never know she was the tough leader with all this executive experience the way her supporters constantly defend her ineptness and constantly portray her as a victim.

ABC News Exposes Palin Lie
by OHDem
Sat Oct 04, 2008 at 02:23:02 PM PDT
Who knew ABC News actually did follow up? They apparently have caught Palin in a lie from her debate with Senator Biden. Just what did she lie about? Follow the jump…
“When I and others in the legislature found out that we had some millions of dollars [of Permanent Fund investments] in Sudan, we called for divestment through legislation of those dollars,”
So said Governor Sarah Palin during Thursday night’s debate. One problem – it’s a complete lie. Les Gara (D) an Alaska State Representative from Anchorage co-sponsored a resolution early in the year to force the Alaska Permanent Fund to divest all funds with ties to the Sudanese government. Apparently this numbered in the millions of dollars. The Alaska Permanent Fund for those that do not know is a 40 Billion dollar investment fund which distributes dividends to all Alaskan residents on a yearly basis (with exclusions for felons and habitation requirements). This is mainly oil money of course.
But a search of news clips and transcripts from the first three months of this year did not turn up an instance in which Palin mentioned the Sudanese crisis or concerns about Alaska’s investments tied to the ruling regime. Moreover, Palin’s administration openly opposed the bill, and stated its opposition in a public hearing on the measure.
So far not so good for Governor Palin. From there the news gets a little stranger. According to Rep Gara the lack of backing from the Palin administration killed the bill.
“I walked out of that hearing livid,” Gara recalled of the February meeting. Because of the Palin administration’s opposition to the bill, “We could not get a vote in that committee,” he explained. At no point did Palin come out in support of the effort, Gara said.
“The legislation is well-intended, and the desire to make a difference is noble, but mixing moral and political agendas at the expense of our citizens’ financial security is not a good combination,” testified Brian Andrews, Palin’s deputy revenue commissioner, before a hearing on the Gara-Lynn Sudan divestment bill in February. Minutes from the meeting are posted online by the legislature.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden’s Plan
Jumpstart the Economy
* Enact a Windfall Profits Tax to Provide a $1,000 Emergency Energy Rebate to American Families:Barack Obama and Joe Biden will enact a windfall profits tax on excessive oil company profits to give American families an immediate $1,000 emergency energy rebate to help families pay rising bills. This relief would be a down payment on the Obama-Biden long-term plan to provide middle-class families with at least $1,000 per year in permanent tax relief.
* Provide $50 billion to Jumpstart the Economy and Prevent 1 Million Americans from Losing Their Jobs: This relief would include a $25 billion State Growth Fund to prevent state and local cuts in health, education, housing, and heating assistance or counterproductive increases in property taxes, tolls or fees. The Obama-Biden relief plan will also include $25 billion in a Jobs and Growth Fund to prevent cutbacks in road and bridge maintenance and fund school repair – all to save more than 1 million jobs in danger of being cut.
Provide Middle Class Americans Tax Relief
Obama and Biden will cut income taxes by $1,000 for working families to offset the payroll tax they pay.
* Provide a Tax Cut for Working Families: Obama and Biden will restore fairness to the tax code and provide 150 million workers the tax relief they need. Obama and Biden will create a new “Making Work Pay” tax credit of up to $500 per person, or $1,000 per working family. The “Making Work Pay” tax credit will completely eliminate income taxes for 10 million Americans.
* Eliminate Income Taxes for Seniors Making Less than $50,000: Barack Obama will eliminate all income taxation of seniors making less than $50,000 per year. This proposal will eliminate income taxes for 7 million seniors and provide these seniors with an average savings of $1,400 each year. Under the Obama-Biden plan, 27 million American seniors will also not need to file an income tax return.
* Simplify Tax Filings for Middle Class Americans: Obama and Biden will dramatically simplify tax filings so that millions of Americans will be able to do their taxes in less than five minutes. Obama and Biden will ensure that the IRS uses the information it already gets from banks and employers to give taxpayers the option of pre-filled tax forms to verify, sign and return. Experts estimate that the Obama-Biden proposal will save Americans up to 200 million total hours of work and aggravation and up to $2 billion in tax preparer fees.

Under-employed and under the radar
A growing number of people are working part-time jobs because they can’t find full-time work, or abandoning their job search altogether.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — The economic crisis has taken a severe toll on the nation’s workforce. But while much of the discussion centers around layoffs and unemployment, a growing number of Americans are becoming under-employed – struggling to pay their bills on a smaller salary, or completely giving up on finding any work.
Unemployment claims have climbed to 7-year highs, but the number of people who have settled for part-time work or given up on finding a job altogether is the worst it’s been in over 14 years, but isn’t included in the official unemployment rate.
Because of the slowing economy and credit crunch, companies are not only laying off workers, but also scaling back hours and shifting some full-time employees to part-time shifts. That can make it extremely difficult for those workers already having trouble making ends meet in the face of higher gas prices and mounting expenses.
“Even workers who hold onto their jobs during a downturn can suffer on this dimension,” according to Heidi Shierholz an economist at the Economic Policy Institute, a research group based in Washington. “Those additional 10 hours of work can be the difference for a family being able to make their rent, fill their gas tank, heat their homes.”

She would start a nuclear war with Russia because she wouldn’t know how not to – or because she would want to bring on the Rapture (or some other psycho end-times Xian horror).

I was an ardent McCain supporter until he picked Mrs. Moosebreath.
The way I see it now is that McCain is clearly borderline senile. Obama is suffering from oxygen starvation from having his head in the clouds for so long, Biden is a one man circus clown car, and Palin is a screeching imbecile.
What has the Republic done to deserve this? Not one of them is fit to hold any public office, much less either the Presidency or Vice Presidency.

I hear McCain’s so desperate he’s going to dub himself “the White Obama.”
(a certifiable non-Palinbecile wink)
The truly sad thing is, McCain actually used to have some convictions. Like when he called fundies like Palin and her supporters “agents of intolerance.” But after he lost out to Bush in 2000, his desire for power trumped his honor, and now there seems to be nothing left of the latter. He’s even hired the Rove’s protege Schmidt to dream up ways to slime Obama, in the same way he himself was slimed so disgustingly by Rove’s minions in the 2000 campaign. Winning at all costs. The end justifies the means.
CC, even the arch-conservative Krauthammer just admitted that Obama has a first-class intellect and a first-class temperament. George Will said much the same thing. Go on, be a maverick and vote Democratic. It’ll do you good.

“When I decided to finally start a blog after years of reading other blogs and thinking, “I can do this, why don’t I start a blog?” I knew that I wanted it to be a current events blog because that was my interest, I wanted to share with others what I found on the Internet and what I thought of it. But I didn’t just want it to be a normal current events blog, I wanted to reflect my love of the Lord and my reformed Christian worldview. I believe that it would seep through my posts and that it wasn’t necessary to be explicit about it. I believed that the name of the blog warned the reader that they weren’t in for the views of a typical “evangelical,” conservative, religious right Christian. Maybe I expected more of my reader than they were able to comprehend but I’ve been trying to remedy that with links in the sidebar and trying to publish posts about the distinctives of Reformed Theology (this being the first of many, I hope

Ellen,
I am appalled that some such as yourself, who appears to be intelligent and thoughtful, would give such an ignorant shill as Palin a pass. Are you so partisan that you would unthinkingly put the welfare of the Republican Party over the welfare of the United States?
If that empty-headed dolt wins this election, I will have lost all faith in the American people. To elect such a stupid, stupid person is beyond me. And yes, we have been considering leaving for Israel at some point if she wins. A United States that elect a Palin is not a United Sates that is friendly to the Jewish people.

The “empty headed dolt” isn’t running for president.

No. Your personal opinion is that Democrats are what is best for the United States. My personal opinion is that you are incorrect. We are headed into what I’ve seen described as the first financial crisis of the global economy. Raising taxes on the people who do the hiring does not sound like a wonderful plan.
(notice: no slurs towards your intelligence, mental state or ulterior motives. I simply think you are wrong.)

McCain is 72 years old, and has had melanoma 3 times. She has a higher likelihood of being President than not.
She could be our future – God help us all. As I said on another post, she ‘s completely capable of bumbling into a nuclear war. The better to bring the rapture about.
Plus, the fact that I absolutely believe she’s an anti-Semite seals the deal for me.
