Obama was a member of the “New Party”

A socialist democratic party. Ah-ha! To all you people who told me I didn’t know what I was talking about when I called Obama a Marxist, here you go.

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

Give it up, Michele. With the trajectory that McCain’s campaign has been on these last few days, all your muckraking and fear-mongering won’t work.
McCain’s campaign is dead in the water, and Palin’s chances at the VP along with it. Stick a fork in the GOP this year. They’re done.

It is looking like the choice of Mrs. Moosebreath was the beginning of the collapse of the McCain campaign. As of today he’s ten points behind in Wisconsin and I don’t think even the Bradley Effect can compensate for that. He really needed an expert on the economy for a running mate, not someone who’s only talents seem to be giving birth over and over again and screeching.

Time to piss on the fire and call the dogs.
Nice try, Michele. Hope you come to your senses one of these days and disavow your fear-mongering, anti-American, hatred-inciting, race-baiting party of liars, hypocrites, crooks, demagogues and traitors. Of course, now that y’all have wrecked the nation’s economy through your untrammeled greed and handed Osama bin Laden the very thing he wanted but could never have accomplished himself–bringing America to its knees–we will all have to live with the consequences.
But don’t imagine we’ll forget who was responsible. Not ever.

Brooks decried Palin’s anti-intellectualism and compared her to President Bush in that regard:
“He [Bill Buckley] thought it was important to have people on the conservative side who celebrated ideas, who celebrated learning. And his whole life was based on that, and that was also true for a lot of the other conservatives in the Reagan era. Reagan had an immense faith in the power of ideas. But there has been a counter, more populist tradition, which is not only to scorn liberal ideas but to scorn ideas entirely.”

Though I hate to even dignify the sort of smear tactic that most Americans are coming to see as the characteristic strategy of a campaign in its last throes trying to exploit the deep-seated racial prejudice that remains a underlying force in the US, socialism and Marxism are most definitely not the same thing. There might be some similarities both in terms of origins and ideology, but anyone with even a cursory knowledge of politics outside the United States should be able to point out that the label socialism applies to a wide ideological spectrum that, though it may include Marxism on one extreme end, certainly doesn’t necessitate such a connection. Countries like Sweden and even Canada, though they may have certain socialist aspects to their political system, are not Marxist. Confirmation of this can also be found in Marx’s own writings, where the socialism of his contemporaries is often the main target of trenchant critique. Not only that, but it is obvious to anyone who is capable of using the Internet to check things on their own, that applying the term socialist to The New Party is misleading at best.
In addition, the fact that Obama may have some sort of sympathy with a Marxist account of history or some form of socialism should not really be that troubling to someone writing from “a Reformed perspective.” Perhaps the greatest American Reformed theologian of the twentieth century, Reinhold Niebuhr, was an ardent supporter of many socialist causes throughout his life. More recently, Nicholas Wolterstorff, a philosopher/theologian who is most certainly in the Reformed tradition laid out a number of ways in which Calvinism and Marxist accounts of history share much and might fruitfully engage in dialogue in his book, Until Justice and Peace Embrace.
The fact that you immediately without any discernment jump from a loose association between Obama and the New Party, a third party that may have loose socialist inclinations, to the proposition ‘Obama=Marxist’ is a perfect illustration of the dangers of conflating American civil religion with the Reformed tradition. Its also a bit disturbing to see someone who approaches politics from a Reformed perspective buying into the McCain campaign’s recent efforts to try and exploit prejudice and paint Obama as an associate of Terrorists/Marxists/Muslims, etc.
I was recently at a McCain campaign event and the kind of things that were being thrown around about who Obama was were absolutely disgusting and showed the worst parts of America’s political history. You may have seen some of this going around the internet lately as well with videos of people calling obama a terrorist or Muslim or using his middle name. Maybe there not coming from McCain or people in his campaign but it would be nice to see them move toward a way of campaigning that doesn’t encourage this or at least come out and try to tell their supporters that this kind of junk should is inappropriate and needs to stop.

Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. McCarthyism went out of style in the 1950s.
And by the way, if you aren’t aware, pretty much everyone (including the US Senate) except the few remaining members of the John Birch Society agrees that McCarthy’s anti-American activities hearing weren’t the best chapter in American history.
And this is even worse – McCarthyism squared since your side is using McCarthy’s tactics to suggest that Obama is a communist AND a muslim terrorist.

The thing about small “c” communists is that, as a general rule, they really don’t have much love for this country. In fact, deep down, they’re kinda like Ayers and Pfleger and Wright in their fundamental antipathy to what most people would consider to be basic American values (little things like independence, achievement, competition, entreprenuerialism, private property, national borders, patriotism . . . etc., etc.).
But golly, I guess no one here gives a sh*t!
For anyone interested in a run down of the “troubling associations,” here’s a good precis (in a British publication, of course) – and may the MSM be d*mned for refusing to vett – and more often than not actively WHITEWASHING – this guy’s background.

If being a socialist is such a good thing, why is Obama hiding it? Some could call it a cover up. He’s trying to hide his past associations because he knows that America doesn’t want a socialist President. He’s running a deceptive campaign.
If he’s not a socialist anymore, he should admit his past activities and explain what changed his mind. I would respect that. Heck, Reagan spoke of his socialist past. Is he trying to hide it because he still is one and doesn’t want the American public to know it?

Today Cindy McCain was excoriating Obama for voting against funding the troops. She neglected to mention that her husband just received a grade of “D” from the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America for his lousy voting record on veterans’ issues, including funding the troops, while Obama and Biden received B’s. McCain repeatedly tried to block passage of the new G.I. Bill and then when it passed despite his opposition, tried to take credit for it. He missed 6 out of 9 of the votes on such issues in the last congressional year.
This is the kind of rank hypocrisy that is so characteristic of McCain and the Republicans in general. It frankly turns my stomach, especially as someone who grew up in the military and saw firsthand the kind of sacrifices military families make. I hope the truth of McCain’s record on veterans’ issues gets out there, loud and clear. People need to know that just as the Republican party has cynically used and abused religion and religious people for political ends, they are using and abusing the military and the flag.

The 13-minute video “Keating Economics” is excellent; it not only traces McCain’s history with Charles Keating, who essentially looted the Lincoln Savings and Loan and cheated thousands of people out of their life savings, requiring a buge government bailout, but it will also help you understand the practices that have directly led to what is going on right now. It’s not a political rant; it just lays out the facts in a way almost anyone can understand, even if you have only the most basic knowledge of economic concepts. Watch it; you’ll learn something important.

Forcing the guy to come clean about his basic political outlook is not an act of hatred or bigotry – and I’ll venture to guess Obama’s membership in an overtly socialist party are something most people would find highly relevant – yet the information in this report was SCRUBBED from several locations – it finally turned up in an out of the way internet cache for non-profits! The guy is doing everything in his power to prevent a full examination of his past. He flat out lied about his extensive prior involvement with Ayers – even CNN was forced to admit it, to the obvious chagrin of Cooper Anderson; he refuses to release a list of legal clients or the work he did for them; his Illinois Sentate records are missing; he won’t release his bar application, senior thesis or his school records from Columbia or Harvard. This is stuff we ought to be entitled to see before a presidential election.

In despising socialism, it would be her Republican values outweighing her Calvinist convictions, except for the “freedom in Christ” bit. IOW, you can quote Reformed theologians all day – we’ve all tried it – but they have no authority over her.

I just came across this at the Society for Biblical Literature (SBL) website, on English Bible translations; it seems related to our discussion here:
The Revised Standard Version (RSV)
This 1952 American revision of the ASV took further steps to modernize the language of the translation and to embrace textual criticism. … Some of the changes to the text led to controversy as the translators, mostly SBL members, and their translation were deemed communist by Sen. Joseph McCarthy and others!
Imagine!

And for one good reason: B.O. has consistently lied about his past and folks are beginning to have justifiable doubts about this phony. He is, in the headline of a recent Charles Krauthammer column, “The Perfect Stranger.”

My, my, we’re getting a little touchy, aren’t we now? The polls are tightening, indeed, which may explain YellowDogNC’s nasty temper this morning. Sadly, however, there is a high probability that B.O. will still be able swindle enough people with his impossible promise of tax cuts for 95% of the voters.
“Tax cuts for the middle class” Hmmmmm, who was the last Presidential candidate to peddle that moonshine? Why, William Jefferson Clinton, of ocurse, who proceeded once in office to ram down the biggest tax increase in the 20th century.
Don’t trust this “Perfect Stranger.” He tells us that his long-time ally, unrepentant terrorist William Ayres, was just a “guy living in the neighborhood. That’s all.”

Reaganite is yet another Nero fiddling while Rome burns. In this case, Rome is our economic system, which has burned while under the watch of Reaganite’s party.
But, hey, listen to Reaganite. Why worry about the economy, your savings, your retirement, or your job? It’s important that we worry about William Ayers and his relationship to Obama!
Of course, Reaganite conveniently forgets to mention John McCain’s relationship with “Joe Bananas” Bonanno, the New York crime boss. He also forgets, conveniently, to discuss McCain’s affiliation with former Arizona governor, convicted felon Fife Symington.
Well, what’s a GOP hack to do when his candidate is tanking so badly? Of course he will follow the party leadership and bring out the character assassination.
Of course, given how Palin is riling up the masses, maybe character isn’t the only thing the GOP wants assassinated this campaign season?

UPDATE, 4 pm: The Cook Political Report is also amping up their predictions of Democratic gains in the House and Senate next month. In the latest updates, Charlie Cook now says Democrats are positioned to win between six and eight Senate seats and 15 to 25 House seats. “At this stage, the most relevant question would seem to be: ‘How big will the train wreck be for the Republican Party up and down the ballot in November,’” writes Charlie.

That would give the Democrats 59 Senate seats and 262 House seats.
