Michele,
When are you going to stop insulting your fellow Americans?
When is it going to dawn on you that we all have to share this country and we all have to get along for it to work?
You know, until I went to this blog, I never labeled conservatives by their political views. I still thought of them as people first, even if I totally disagreed with them. After being here, I feel like I'm supposed to cut off my conservative friends and relatives, that I'm supposed to see them as some label before I see them as human beings - as you seem to see the rest of us as the "other" before you see us as human beings...
except I don't want to do that. I don't want to see this country so polarized that we can't have decent relationships with people who don't think like us.
I would hope you would do the same, but I'm not optimistic. Of course, I'm also a non-Christian as well as a liberal, so i guess I'm doubly less-than-human.

Do you believe that your views should dictate everyone's thoughts and behaviors?
Do you ever consider the events you write about from another perspective?
Is it beneath you to dignify your fellow human beings by not referring to them as "lefies"?
Do you realize that opportunity you have by having your own blog and the good you could be doing with it?
What aspects of your behavior and beliefs do you consider to be Christian?
Did you go to college? Did you take any anthropology or cultural diversity classes?
I invite you to answer my questions Michele.

Guy,
The government is responsible for creating the environment in which people can succeed, prosper, and have choices. The environment I'm talking about: making sure our roads/bridges are safe and function properly, making sure our restaurants are up to code, amongst others.
Only when everyone is given the opportunity to succeed (making health care a right, making college affordable, for instance), can we see the true effects of personal/individual achievements. Its not about blaming others. Its about understanding the importance of environment.

College is affordable......for who? Have you ever attended college? Do you believe that everyone gets a job right out of college? That every job offers health care and that health care is adequate for everyone's needs? When everyone shares risk, insurance costs go down. I am not against getting a job; I am in college now to fulfill that very purpose. Second of all, Obama's rise is a rarity, for every Obama there are millions that languish in poverty. Our infant mortality is on the rise, health care costs are skyrocketing, and our economy is crashing.......is the system working for you? Our police force is socialized but I don't see anyone complaining about that.......

Yes, and we also have Medicaid and Medicare. If we got rid of Medicare (a socialized system) many would be unable to afford their prescriptions. I believe that adequate health care should be a right for every person not just a privilege of the few. If many of those in poverty are lazy; should we do away with charities? I'm sure, in this *wonderful* economic climate, that laziness must be the main contributing factor.
I also am paying my way through school, am a research assistant in two labs, and a student-tutor. I am disciplined and responsible. I am fortunate that I am able to go to school; many are not. What is so wrong with making college affordable with loans that people can reasonably pay back?

I absolutely thing that we should take care of those who cannot take are of themselves. Those who will not should bear the consequences of that choice.
What is so wrong with making college affordable with loans that people can reasonably pay back?
Nothing. We already do that. Check out the financial aid section of any college or university website.
What do you think government's role should be in the US?
Read the Constitution.
You didn't answer the question I directed to you
we currently have a socialized police force....do you believe we should privatize it?
Please read this as many times as you need to in order to understand what I am trying to say. This is not about paying ZERO taxes. It's about the top 50% of wage earners paying 96% of the income taxes...and the bottom 50% paying 4% (2001 numbers) and having the bottom end tell the top end they need to pay "their fair share".
Thus, my "cricket calling" question: what percentage of the money that a person earns should they be able to keep?
Anyway...
Do you think we would benefit from privatizing the police force? social security?
I think we would benefit from having federal taxes cut by many percentages and allow the state and local governments to run their own departments. That is not "privatizing", that is giving the power back to the states (as per the Constitution).
Social Security - uh...technically, that funding is supposed to come from that part of our paychecks that says "FICA" and "medicare" - not our income taxes.
Do I think benefit from privatizing Social Security? Partially, yes. We would still need the "safety net" for those who cannot take care of themselves. But for able bodied people, if part of their share of the Social Security payment were held in a 401K or other long term, insured investment vehicle with their name on it, it would certainly teach self-responsibility.
But this is about "spreading the wealth" (As Obama said). How much of a person's earnings should they be able to keep? After all the taxes that a person has removed from their paychecks - should a person be able to keep 60% of their own money? 50%? 40%?
What is "fair"?
