One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1. She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life. A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments.
The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others.
Through it, I have seen people reach out

Hey, Bush won an election by lying about Kerry. He won an earlier one by lying about McCain. Now McCain has the same masters of deceit and slander running his campaign. But they’re losing their touch.
Palin and McCain have lied constantly and unrepentantly, even after their lies were exposed, and they are telling even more disgusting lies now that they are losing big.
But the American people aren’t buying. They see this transparent attempt to slime Obama for what it is: a distraction from the real issues. On that front the Republicans have no defense. The Bush policies, with which McCain agreed 90% of the time and which he would continue, have brought us to the brink of disaster.
The people listened to Biden and Palin. They heard a knowledgeable, compassionate man take on somebody who thinks she can wink her way to power by memorizing talking points and avoiding real questions and appealing to the worst in human nature. They saw someone who was so emotionally tone deaf, so lacking in empathy, that she had NO reaction to the real grief of the person standing next to her on that stage. (Guess nobody thought to coach her on how to appear human.)
Palin lost because the truth of who she is speaks louder than words.

More bad news for Palin. And where did she get off ordering state employees not to testify in the first place? That’s an abuse of power in itself.
Reversal in Palin Case
ANCHORAGE (AP) — Seven Alaska state employees have reversed course and agreed to testify in an abuse-of-power investigation against Gov. Sarah Palin.
Ms. Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, is the focus of a legislative inquiry into whether she abused her office by firing the public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan. Mr. Monegan says he was dismissed because he would not fire the governor’s former brother-in-law.
Lawmakers subpoenaed seven state employees to testify in the inquiry, but they challenged those subpoenas. A judge rejected that challenge last week. Because of that ruling, the Alaska attorney general, Talis Colberg, says, the employees have decided to testify.

Here’s an interesting take on Palin’s performance; Frank Rich thinks she’s running for President:

I’ve heard that CNN’s viewer poll said that Biden won the debate. They also said that Palin was “more likable.” The ABC poll I saw said that 55% said that they thought more highly of Palin after the debate while 53% said the same about Biden.
My question is … how does a candidate “win the debate”? It’s not like standard debates. In a standard debate, two sides come with all their statistics, facts, logical arguments, and presentation and present the reasons that you and I should agree with them. The one with the most cogent, coherent, convincing arguments wins. No such debate took place here. It was simply “I think” versus “I think” (and “your candidate stinks” versus “your candidate stinks”). There wasn’t much in the way of facts or statistics, logical arguments, or, for that matter, attention to truth. So how does a candidate “win the debate”?

In this kind of ‘debate’? Not like this was an official one with a moderator, each one addressing the point, then a chance for rebuttal…
So, in this sort of debate, you win by persuading the most voters.
So, if the polls say that one did better than the other, that one won the debate.
And if the polls say that viewers thought ‘Biden won the debate’?
Then, Biden won the debate.

And Obama’s people would know the truth if they sat on it. Politicians lie. It is the most important thing a politician can learn to do because it is the only way that they can be elected and stay in office.
