One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1. She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life. A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight.
My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments.
The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others.
Through it, I have seen people reach out

I think we all need to remember (especially Michelle) that we do live in a democracy and that we must all eventually work together to solve our problems and remain safe. If some people are branding Obama as a terrorist, then how in the world is our country ever going to function. And, to those who brandish this line of attack–in all honesty, do you really believe that Obama is or will be a terrorist if he takes office? Do you believe that he’s ultimately sympathetic to terror in any form. And if he is a “friend” to terror, then what do you expect him to do? Bomb the White House, his own home? Invite Al Qaeda to set up shop in Chicago? If, in all honesty, you believe this, then fine, continue with this line of attack. If not, I think the honest and decent and moral thing to do would be to stop–before bad things happen. Are you really comfortable with folks at Palin/McCain rallies yelling out “terrorist” or even “kill him.?”

I’m beginning to believe McCain and Palin want; that he be assassinated. They do nothing to stop these outbursts at rallies, they say nothing to calm them to the press. If anything happens to Obama, terrible things will happen in this country that haven’t been seen in a century or more.

Since McCain is going around asking “who is the REAL Barack Obama?” (as if Obama hasn’t been scruntinized down to his eyebrows for the last four years), I think it’s fair to ask “Who is the REAL John Sidney McCain III?”
Turns out there’s a whole lot people don’t know:

myshkin2 and EG, pigs will fly before Michele admits she’s part of the mob crying for Obama’s death, but her silence betrays her. Like her heroes McCain/Palin, she hasn’t breathed so much as a word of criticism.
“Bomb his own house”? What a great line.

OT: But it’s so ironic that Bush is advocating getting through this economic crisis “together,” as he’s always been ’bout as maverick as they come.
Maybe those faith-based initiatives will get going yet … might wish we had ‘em already.

simple minds believe simple slogans like “the surge worked.” the truth is a lot more nuanced, and less certain.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/10/07/holmes.surge/
more than the surge has played into the reduction of violence, including the walls that michele’s post focuses on (but does she acknowledge that fact? no, she copies and pastes from the article, but according to her all of the credit goes to the surge), the sons of iraq, the awakening movement, probably had the largest affect in ridding the areas of al quaeda in iraq. and then we changed our strategy of whack-a-mole where we would clear an area and retreat back to the green zone to one where our troops moved into joint security stations within the communities. these things and others were all part of an equation that has gotten us this far.
to say that the surge failed is wrong, but to say that it succeeded is equally wrong. iraq is still broken. death and violence still roil areas of iraq.
