“When it gets rough out there, a lot of business leaders get out of the car and say, ‘We’re OK with minor reform.’ I’m challenging you today, we’re going to have to do big, serious things,” Rahm Emanuel said, speaking to The Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council, a conference convened to elicit corporate opinion on the challenges facing the new president.
[...]
Mr. Emanuel promised that a major economic stimulus would be “the first order of business” for Mr. Obama when he takes office Jan. 20. The focus of spending will be on infrastructure, specifically “green infrastructure,” which he said would include mass transit, upgraded electricity transmission lines, “smart” electrical meters that allow consumers to save money by using electricity at off-peak hours, and universal broadband Internet access, which he said would encourage telecommuting.
He stressed that the new administration would “throw long and deep,” taking advantage of the economic crisis to push wholesale changes in health care, taxes, financial re-regulation and energy. “The American people in two successive elections have voted for change, and change cannot be allowed to die on the doorsteps of Washington,” Mr. Emanuel said.
Um…part of the American people voted for change, 59 million of us didn’t! And I bet a whole lot of those who voted for change didn’t have a clue what that meant.
BTW, does he mean that the government would provide broadband excess in areas where it’s not available? Or provide incentives for it to be built?

“59 million that lost.”
Just because we lost doesn’t mean we lost our rights even though you guys probably would have thrown us into prison camps if you could. Too bad we have a constitution, huh?

Wasn’t the part that voted a majority? Welcome to democracy.

Thats quite a patronising comment – essentially the people who you disagree with were too stupid to realise what they were doing…
“even though you guys probably would have thrown us into prison camps if you could”
I’m confused as to who you mean by you guys?

You remember all that unilateral action your favorite president and his administration took without the consent of the rest of the country? Sauce for the goose, McGinty.
You losers get to sit by the sidelines and weep for 4 years, thanks to Chimpy’s buildup executive powers over the last 8.
Your own medicine tastes awful bitter, no?
This is going to be the best 4-8 years *ever* watching whiners like you.

tough luck, sister. i would think that you would have an understanding of how the system works now. in 2000, bush lost the popular vote by 0.5% (500,000 votes) and squeaked out an electoral win with 5 electoral votes. you didn’t care about bush imposing your agenda on us, the majority, then. in 2004, bush barely won the popular vote by 2.4% (3M votes) and 35 electoral votes. you didn’t care about bush imposing your agenda on us, then. you didn’t care about bush’s dismissal of the constitution during his 8 years.
obama won by a bigger percentage of the popular vote than bush ever did with 67.8M to 59.0M or 7% more of the popular vote. look at how many state governments are led by democrat governors and state congresses. you’re the minority and you’ve been a roadblock to progress for too long.
“And I bet a whole lot of those who voted for change didn’t have a clue what that meant.”
i’ll take that bet.
“BTW, does he mean that the government would provide broadband excess in areas where it’s not available?”
yeah, that’s right. he means that the socialist government will force broadband upon those areas that just don’t want it. how awful.
