I kept forget to post a big thank you to all of those who have served in our nation’s military like my dad who was in the Navy for 20 years! Thanks, Dad! And thanks to the rest of you, too :-)

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight. My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

You’re welcome!
Now I wonder which one of our lefty commenters will be the first to have the temerity and poor taste to show up and berate the vets for being foolish enough to let themselves get shot at, or for serving the evil Bush.

My younger brother is close to 20 yrs in the Navy too.
I was glad to see the Intrepid back, restored, etc. Gotta take the kids to that some day (soon).
I remember there was so much trouble moving her out and the refurbishment expense sounded so high, I wasn’t optimistic it would ever return.

All Veterans should be honored…and not just on Veterans Day.

My dad served for 30 years, was a test pilot who risked his life every day on the flight line and in three wars. My mom, mother to four children, left on her own in poor health when my dad went to Vietnam, passed away when I was 18.
Think about that, ZZ, the next time you are tempted to sneer at and berate and question the patriotism of your fellow Americans simply because their political stance differs from your own. Republicans like to pretend they have a monopoly on patriotism; it has never been true. It was a Republican president and vice-president who sent more than four thousand Americans to their deaths in Iraq for a war that should never have been fought, a war they lied America into. They are traitors in my view. They have abused the military and betrayed all of us. I voted for Obama in part because he has pledged never to send young Americans into harm’s way except when we have absolutely no other choice.
As our president-elect and future commander-in-chief has said more than once, those who fought side by side and bled and sometimes died in Iraq and elsewhere were not red state Americans or blue state Americans; they were Americans, as we all are. I love my country every bit as much as you do. The difference between us is that I can acknowledge that we are both patriots and you cannot. In your refusal to do so, you dishonor your own service and you dishonor my father’s and that of every other brave American who has served in the military.

Well, ZZ, now we see where Michelle’s attitude comes from! So much for grace, respect, and kindness and trying to find common ground in the love all of us have for our country.
Nevertheless, I thank you for your service in protecting freedom, along with all veterans, including members of my family, and I thank my friends currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, for whom I pray every night. And sometimes during the day, too.

Michelle, I tried three times to post a response to ZZ’s snarky comment here; the first two times the stupid new spam filter blocked my message, but the third time it was posted. And now it’s gone. So are you only posting Republicans’ gratuitous insults of people who disagree with them now, or what?
