Planned Parenthood in Indiana offering gift certificates for the holidays
It can be used for birth control, examinations, STD screenings and abortions: For the first time, Planned Parenthood in Indiana is offering gift certificates. The organization said a big increase in calls and visits from newly unemployed and uninsured Hoosiers...
I'm thinking of the old Miss Manners rule that if you're giving food for Christmas, remember that treats are presents and groceries are charity. I can't think of anything Planned Parenthood does that isn't a necessity for the person getting it, so I can't imagine seeing one of their gift certificates as a gift.
The holocaust continues unabated.
“(yeah, I know they're a nonprofit organization that makes millions of dollars and gets millions more in grants from the federal government”
My immediate reaction to reading this was, well, Michelle is assuming this, but I wonder what the truth is. So I did some research on Planned Parenthood of Indiana on GuideStar.
The most recent year they have in a searchable format is 2005.
Direct public support $3,295,468
Government grants $2,013,205
Patient fees $10,638,487
(That’s roughly $100 a visit.)
Medicaid and Title XX $2,547,149
Salaries for the people who handle contraception, STD exams, abortion $5,999,441
(That’s roughly $57 a visit.)
Salaries for “management” $511,280
The abortion doctor, whose name is listed, but whom I decided not to list here, $329,324 a year plus $11K to his 401(k).
Lobbying: $482,178
A single individual donated $890K in one year.
And they have $2.5 million invested in the stock market.
Well, Michelle, you’re right. They do rake in the dough. This kind of information is available online for any tax-exempt abortion provider.
Planned Parenthood is doing this to offer preventative healthcare for women AND men as well as education on STD's etc. I think it is a grand idea. Medical care is expensive, and many in this country aren't covered by insurance, as it is expensive too. Funny, just because they offer a safe abortion, many have assumed that that is what certificates will be used for. Let's see...birth control information, STD prevention....fewer abortions. Makes sense to me.
I received all of my prenatal care through Planned Parenthood for my first child. I don't know how I would have been able to afford regular prenatal care otherwise, much less the hospital bill! They do offer a lot of services. It's not just all abortions all the time. =)
Michele, if you do not wish to see abortions happen, maybe you should adopt some unwanted babies for Christmas. Otherwise methinks you should stuff some turkey in it.
Sarah, thanks for your post of how all your prenatal care, and delivery of your baby was helped by Planned Parenthood. There is too much negativity about how PP helps people. Our first baby was born while by husband was still in the Army, we were just making it, and would have welcomed help, instead we pd. counting each and every penny so our first child could be given the best off base. The do-gooders should put their "boogyman" away and disappear with him. Our medical societies in America will take care of even more now that Obama is President.
We Hoosiers are a generous sort, aren't we? We help women with unplanned pregnancy when everyone else will kick the ladies to the curb. The gyrations don't play right wingers :)
The Holocaust ended in 1945.
DO NOT compare the murder of my family, 6 million other Jews and 6 million other people with the "death" of a clump of cells.
DO NOT use my family for your right wing political agenda.
It can be used for birth control (which many young women have trouble getting!), examinations (which women have trouble getting!) and STD tests.
But you choose to focus on abortion.
So many good things are being done for women's health, and you nitpick abortion.
Stuff some turkey in it, really.
Yes, Sarah, as Henrietta said, thanks for your positive experience with Planned Parenthood. The misinformation that is spread by the "pro-lifers" is incredible. The organization is a positive in communities.
Scott R,
Since you started life as a "clump of cells", I guess you would have no objection if your mother had aborted you, right? If you feel overpopulation is a population, will you be blowing your own brains out soon?
The logic is so clear that it astounds me how people miss it.
That is not the issue, ZZ. There is no scientific agreement that those cells are human, or alive. They cannot function without their mother. If my mother had aborted me, I suppose I would have been born to someone else. And the only reason I would blow my brains out anytime soon is if I had to deal with people like you on a daily basis.
But the Jews of the Holocaust were real, live people who had already been born. Who were exterminated in a pogrom of epic proportions that could never have happened without the full complicity of the Xian churches and their members - who now want to use that dead to make cheap political shots. So don't goddamned dare touch my dead.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Abortion is not a sin in Judaism. We will never side with the conservative Xians on that on. But stupidity is a sin.
"They cannot function without their mother"
So, the minute you have to move to a nursing home, you get a bullet to the brain because you can't function without outside help? Your definitions of humanity are ludicrously simplistic.
Plus, I don't have any evidence at all that your are really Jewish, so your silly straw man of prohibiting the word "Holocaust" bears no wait. I could say I was a black grandmother with a PHD in neuroscience if I wanted to.
Web arguments based on competely unverifiable personal data are rightfully rejected and mocked. Base your comments on something provable.
Base your comments on something provable. All we have is your conjecture (NEVER PROVEN) that a fetus is a human life created at conception to be protected under the constitution...
and that you're a racist anti-Semite, which you've proven more than well enough.
Just what I would expect from Xians.
Whatever you requested can not be complied with. My religion tells me that a fetus is not a human life until the head and shoulders emerge from the birth canal. I will abide by that definition.
"My religion tells me that a fetus is not a human life until the head and shoulders emerge from the birth canal" Stupid, arbitrary, and not in your Bible or mine. A cultural construct, nothing more. The DNA assumes it's unique identity at conception. There is no other logical point to assume the beginnig of life.
The idea that abortion is a not a sin in judaism is a sorry lie, the only reason modern halacha does not adress the issue is because the Rabbis have no balls.
Remember the adage, "to kill one man is to kill the entire world, because you kill all his descendents."
Sounds real nice in synagogue. An saying that is held to apply to theoretical unborn will apply to factual unborn.
