Shelby Steele: "You are consumed by race"
This sounds about right:
Everywhere I went on my book tour, young people would come up. "We're beyond your generation," they would tell me. "We grew up differently than you did." No, I tell them, you didn't. You did not. You are now obsessed with race. Race is the only thing that's driving your interest in Barack Obama. You couldn't even tell me what his policies are. You're never critical of him in any way. If you were free of race you would not judge him culturally. You would judge him politically. You just--you are consumed by race.
I've been thinking lately that the whole "
judged by....the content of their character" thing seems to have been repudiated this election cycle.

No, I don't think so.

The focus on race really seems to have been Michelle's age and up, and to be downright intense in those over 70. Younger Obama enthusiasts, competence and opposition to the war, race, I don't think so. Unlike Michelle, I'm active in the Democratic party so I actually know a few of those of whom she writes here.
Ugh...when will people stop with the "you just voted for obama because he's black" thing? That's as ignorant as saying that I should of voted for Palin because I am also a white woman.
I am so glad this election is over because the whole race topic has been darn annoying.
If you are white and for Obama, then you are consumed by white guilt and thus a closet racist. If you are white and for McCain then you are an overt racist because that must be why you were for McCain.
i'm glad the election is over, too. i just wish that michele would get past it.
i took a break from this blog, but it seems that her ods rages on...
