MICHELE MCGINTY, EITHER YOU WITH US OR YOU ARE AGAINST US. BEING PRO-PROP 8 BY DEFINITION MAKES YOU ANTI-GAY. THESE 2 OPPOSITES ARE MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE. SPEND YOUR MONEY TO TAKE AWAY MY RIGHTS, THEN I WILL STOP SPENDING MY MONEY IN YOUR ESTABLISHMENT. WHY WOULDN'T I? I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO DO SO AND BUSINESSES SHOULD HAVE REALIZED WHEN THEY GET INVOLVED IN THIS KIND OF DEBATE THAT THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES. THATS JUST THE WAY IT IS. I FEEL SORRY FOR ALL THE GAY YOUTH ACROSS THE NATION. THEY MUST BE HEART-BROKEN THAT CA HAS VOTED TO MAKE THEM 2ND CLASS CITIZENS. THIS IS FAR FROM OVER.

I don't think it can be called the new McCarthyism until the government holds hearings and demands "Are you now or have you ever been a member of the LDS?" Until then it is citizen's exercising their right of political speech and other citizens using the power of the boycott.

This is similar to the Baptists and their boycott of the American Girl doll company because it refused to sever ties with Girls Incorporated. Their claim was that this made American Girl pro-abortion and condone lesbianism.

This is the second time I've connected to beliefnet and my real time virus scanner has said that it blocked a virus named: Bloodhound.Exploit.196

I'm really wondering if you guys have some malware on your site since I don't get this elsewhere and my machine is clean.

The HOMOSEXUAL'S HATE for the beliefs and votes of others and their attempt to usurp legal and legitimate decisions by voters only reveals the truth about LEFTY LIB HOMOSEXUALS, they are FASCISTS.

Civil Rights should never be up for a vote.

Human Rights should never be decided with a popularity contest.

The fact that the civil, secular rights of an entire segment of the population can be decided through Mob Rule reveals how far behind the rest of the developed world America truly is.

By the way, Reformed Chick, the LDS Church donated Millions to promoting Prop 8: if they want to act like a political organization, they should be taxed accordingly. How about you author a blog about that? No? Didn't think so.

until the government holds hearings and demands "Are you now or have you ever been a member of the LDS?"

Yeah, that's right.

That might be coming. I would guess Michelle's church might want to save up for its coming tax bills, too.

The Nazis took away peoples' rights before they gassed them and put them in ovens.

I see little difference between the far-right "religious" in this country and them. How can people who are racist, anti-Semitic and anti-gay actually pretend to follow this JC person?

Prop 8 stripped 18,000 legally married couples (civil, secular marriage) of their vows and the inherent rights that came with them. Yet when those human beings protest the abolishment of their equal rights, you call it 'hate.'

Well, yes, I imagine they /do/ hate being treated like second-class citizens. Wouldn't you?

In my country, Canada, Marriage Equality under the Civil Secular Law /is/ a Civil Right and a Human Righ. In my country, homosexual’s /can/ get married. In fact, tens of thousands have.

As more and more countries around the world adopt Marriage Equality for all citizens, America finds itself with an ever-shrinking pool of like-minded allies. Much like your stand of excluding gays from the Military, your closest philosophical neighbours are China and Saudi Arabia. Heh, they say you are who you hang with.

Guy Arthur Thomas, I kind of thought by your choice of language and the "next please" shtick you were probably gay. But I suppose you're telling us you're not. OK. My misunderstanding.

Steve,

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Typical LEFTY LIB. Pretends to be pro-gay rights but...conveniently tries to use the label gay as an insult. Typical LEFTY LIB hypocrite hate-monger.

"the LDS Church donated Millions" Was it the Church or people in the church? There is a hugh difference between the two and as far as I know , it was the people in the church.

"I see little difference between the far-right "religious" in this country and them. How can people who are racist, anti-Semitic and anti-gay actually pretend to follow this JC person?" Scott, Scott, Scott, there you go again... Because I believe in Jesus Christ does not mean I'm racist, anti-Semitic and anti-gay. I love everything and everyone created by God. I know you can't understand that because you have so much hate inside for what Hitler and his followers did to the Jews. I know not one christian who is happy with what Hitler did, hates other races or hates gays.

This is really a case of people with only a small piece of information rushing to a conclusion which verifies their opinion.

In LA, the restaurant at issue has a large gay clientele, and it promotes itself as more than just a place to eat, but rather as frendly welcoming community center. People were shocked to find that its manager, who had always made a point of open and accepting to all, made a contribution to a cause that denigrated a large number of those same people. When it became public knowledge, she invited the public in to talk about it. She heard people express how deeply hurt by the passage of Prop 8. She attempted to express that she meant no harm to anyone, but was unable to really explain her contribution other than "this is what I believe." The public response is a sense of anger and betrayal, that someone who has been part of the community could turn on it. That's not McCarthyism. That's human.

Glo,

I never said that I believed that every Xian is racist, anti-Semitic and anti-gay.

What I did say is that I see little difference between the religious right and the people who pulled the levers and threw the switches for Hitler. I see very little that would lead me to believe that, given the right set of circumstances, that these people would behave differently than the good German Xians of the 30'2 and 40's.

"I know not one christian who is happy with what Hitler did, hates other races or hates gays."

Then you don't get out too much, because I've met plenty of very good Xians that hate gays, blacks, and Jews - and they feel god and the bible give them license to. You might be surprised what some of these people are saying about our new President, as an example. But if you read these blogs closely, you wouldn't be.

The use of the term "McCarthyism" is fallacious and it is demeaning to the memory of a valiant and patriotic senator who was driven to despair and an early death simply because of his dedication to exposing Soviet intelligence agents that had been allowed by Democrats in the Roosevelt and Truman administrations to burrow into the U.S. government. Please read "Blacklisted by History" by Staunton Evans for the truth regarding those times.

Even our factually challenged friend Bob Dodge here would agree McCarthyism is an ideology of the right, by the right and for the right.

Because gay rights activists are fighting from a social justice, left perspective, you can call them a lot of things -- but NOT McCarthyite.

"Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?" -- Joseph Welch to McCarthy, June 9, 1954

Thanks for the ad hominem Larry.

McCarthyism is not an ideology it is a leftist construct used to attack those who get a little too close for comfort. In the case of Senator McCarthy a little too close was exposing homegrown leftist shills for Comrade Stalin.

Gay rights are anything but about social justice, they are about imposing on the rest of us their demands for acceptance of wickedness, through the force of government.

Read Evan's book, especially the part where he describes in greater detail the leftist buffoon and windbag darling of the liberal press that Joseph Welch was.

I think the video showed what happened very well. If you disagree, you will be targeted. Plain and simple. It was a form of intimidation, and I have seen a lot of the left using Hate Speech, such as Rosie and Kathy Griffin.

The want to impress upon us that we are intolerant and force us to become validators through silence. We will not be quiet.

Excellent that speech is still free, but for how long?

I don't see it getting better in the coming years, even with the elitist media forcing the public to see opposing views as bigotry. I, for one, am not buying it.

BTW: I know a lot of white Christians who are not bigots to me or other ethnics groups. Stop the real hate and intolerance!
