The silver linings of this election cycle

So, you'd think that I'd be pretty bummed and if I actually liked McCain I might have been but since I was really voting for Sarah Palin, I'm not too upset and I've thought of some good that has come out of the election:

1. We've switched places, lefty commenters! Now, at every misstep of the Congress and Obama administration, I'll be able to point to you and say, "This is your fault, see what a mess your guys have made of our _______" fill in the blank with whatever coming disaster. Oh, I'm really looking forward to that! It's going to be fun, fun, fun!

2. McCain will not further degrade the Republican brand, the economy is going to be in the tank no matter who is president, better Democrats continuing wrecking it than Republicans continue taking the blame. And with his loss, we will never again need to hear about reaching across the aisle to win elections. We will have to run on our principles, not as moderates. Clearly running as a moderate loses elections as we've learned this election cycle.

3. No one can deny that the MSM is biased anymore and with that they've lost all credibility. Everyone is admitting it, and I mean everyone:

Network anchors and reporters vied for airtime in which to express their own elation at Obama's win, and a sometimes inappropriate personal sense of victory; were reporters who said they were thrilled by Obama's winning sort of confirming charges of pro-Obama bias that had been leveled by McCain forces during the campaign?
It is a Pyrrhic victory since they have destroyed their reputation beyond repair. No one can take them seriously after being so completely in the tank for Obama.

4. Joe Biden the Prophet is our new vice president and it's going to be a fun four years! I look forward to blogging all of his gaffes and missteps. He truly is the gift that keeps on giving and I bet he'll be the salvation of the late night talk show hosts who can mock him but not Obama. They won't have Bush or Cheney to kick around anymore :-)

5. Speaking of Bush and Cheney, no more BushHilter protest signs! Yeah! You guys won't have Bush to kick around anymore. He's gone, you can't blame him, you can try but it won't work. Ancient history, baby! (Isn't that what you said about Clinton?)

6.The President of the United States is no longer tied to conservative Christians (and I mean "conservative" in the theological sense and not the political sense). We are free from the weight of a political party. I pray that we won't allow ourselves to be co-opted again. Good luck to the lefties who are now in bed with Obama.

7. We'll learn as a nation not to be so materialistic. Belt tightening will be good for us, we can learn to do without many of our comforts. I mentioned this to my kids today and they agreed, so we will be doing with less in the coming months to afford the coming tax hikes and higher prices. It will be a time of discipline which will strengthen our character, look what the depression did for our grandparents :-)

8. It will be good for the college kids who voted for Obama to experience the consequences of their actions. It's an important lesson to learn and I'm glad that Obama will give them that opportunity when they have trouble finding a job after graduation.

9. Race is not longer an issue in this country, this election has taken it off the table. Blacks can no longer be treated as a victim class and if anyone attempts to do so, you just point to this election and say, "How racist can the nation be? We have a black president." The racial divide is ended but the glass ceiling is still intact (especially with a sexist president).

10. It will also be good when the American voters realize that there is no such thing as a political savior, maybe when they see that their life is the same, the nation hasn't dramatically changed, that we are still at war and the world is still a dangerous place and Obama hasn't been able bring peace to the world or prosperity to the nation, maybe then they'll be ready for the real Prince of Peace.

"So, you'd think that I'd be pretty bummed and if I actually liked McCain I might have been but since I was really voting for Sarah Palin, I'm not too upset..."

Wow. Really? Really? You truly wanted Sarah Palin to define your party?

Look, I used to like McCain myself a few years back. I can even understand what people saw in him this year, even after he sold out (well, sort of), but... PALIN?! Have you learned absolutely nothing from the last 3 months?

Sheesh. Some of McCain's campaign staff came out today (to FOX NEWS, no less) to let everyone know just how deep Palin's ignorance ran. We're talking stunning levels of cluelessness. Things kindergarteners should know. The staff even admitted that virtually no vetting took place, and that they chose her on a whim, almost exclusively as a puppet, just to manipulate the base and "change the game".

That anyone is still propping her up as viable presidential material just... scares me.

that's a very sad reflection of yourself, michele. to be looking forward to any possible disasters is, well... sick. ods has a cure.

"Have you learned absolutely nothing from the last 3 months?"

gillian, have you not learned anything about michele in the entire time you've been reading her blog? you should know by now that palin is exactly the type of right-wing religious extremist that michele champions.

Even Rod Dreher thinks Palin is as dumb as a fence post.

Palin's political career? Over.

If the Repubs want to be represented by Palin, who didn't even know that Africa is a continent and not a country (source-Fox news) - I say, fine, she represents you perfectly.

And Michele is going to have fun sniping- as though the Repubs did such a great job that anybody thinks they have an answer to any actual problems. That's why the voters rejected them.

The rest of the world is relieved that we have elected a new President who speaks English, and actually paid attention in school.

Palin really does represent the Republican right .
The rest of the country, and the world, is tired of the 'ignorant and proud of it' routine.
