Meet Joseph Cao

Sunday December 7, 2008

Categories: Politics

Here's an interesting article about the Republican, Joseph Cao, who beat William Jefferson, it was published before the election. I thought this was pretty funny, the Republicans should use it a lot in 2010 :-)

Running against an entrenched incumbent doesn't faze Cao. "The election of Barack Obama suggests that people are willing to cross party and racial lines to vote for the person they think is best for the country and will bring accountability back into politics."
I guess he was right because he won in a heavily Democratic and black district! If I had read the article before the election, I wouldn't have bet he'd win.

I agreed with TPH. Just like we selected Obama to be our new president (Do you care if his name is Hussen or Sadam?), we want to change from the last 8 yrs of our gov's corruption and move on with the future. I am looking forward to our new faces and regime.

As long as he can help LA to clean up these mess from Democrate... people are happy. Get a life.

Wow. On this week's episode of "Missing the Point Entirely with TPH."

I'm just happy that there will (hopefully) be less corruption in government, but the focus of my comment had nothing to do with that. Anh Cao stated that Americans "crossed racial lines" to vote for someone they may not have ever seen named Joseph Cao. If the election ballot read his real name, then I will also be more than happy to believe that they did, in fact, "cross racial lines" to vote for him. Until then, that is all I need to say about it.

Don't you dare tell me to get a life, that's just intellectually lazy. Try to argue the point. Try to tell me that we can honestly believe people "crossed racial lines" to vote for this man when he somehow had the desire to give himself a nickname of "Joseph".

Again, I'm not arguing that it's good to get (hopefully) less corruption in government, I'm arguing what he said about "crossing racial lines".

I'm glad that Joesph Cao has won. Let's hope he would bring back a culture of accountability to Congress and also serve his constituents well.

Good luck, Rep.-elect Joesph Cao.

Well, good luck to him, I say. I hope he does restore a sense of accountability and cleanliness that was not present in former Rep. Jefferson's days.

Welcome to Michelle's Blabbing Blog - where intellectual consistency and vigor is as un-American as Coos-Coos and East Asians using their birth names!

All kidding aside - don't read too much into it. Almost every Korean and Vietnamese person I went to college with (in Seattle - lots of Int'l students) Americanized their names. Do I agree with their reasons for doing so? Would I do the same in their shoes? I can't say I can answer either question, but in any case it's really not my business.

I do doubt very seriosusly if Mr. Cao campaigned without ever being on TV. People who voted for him knew who he was. Can we say the same for everyone who voted *against* Jefferson? Perhaps not, but I see no reason to read nefarious intent where there probably was none.
