Happy New Year!!!

posted by Susan Johnson | 11:39am Thursday January 1, 2009

Hope you’re enjoying the first day of the new year :-) I’ve been thinking about my new year’s resolutions and realized how similar they are to last year’s which is pretty depressing. Why can’t I keep them? Why can’t I ever reach my goals?
So, you might ask, why do I continue to make them? Because I live in hope (and because it’s a tradition :-) So here they are:
Lose weight
Read through the NT in Greek in a year
Read through the Psalms in Hebrew
Write a Bible study (I’m not sure which book I want to concentrate on yet, maybe the Psalms)
I’m keeping it simple this year, hopefully I can concentrate on these things and actually accomplish them.
But my resolutions pale in comparison to Jonathan Edwards’ resolutions! As they usually do :-) So what about your’s or have you given up?

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight. My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

Me either. Seems kinda pagan. Good luck to Michelle with hers, though.

My goal is simple: limit myself.
And I hope to do so by….
reducing useless driving;
being moderate with expectations;
shortening my discussions;
eliminating senseless witicisms.

Jonathan Edwards’ resolutions are really something. I have a copy in my Bible. And 2009 is the 500th anniversary year of the birth of John Calvin!
Twice I’ve tried to put comments on this blog that when we sing “And the government shall be upon His shoulder…” from MESSIAH, doesn’t that mean that Jesus Christ should be recognised by our governments as king right now, and we should seek His will? However, there has been a technical difficulty and I don’t know if you saw my comments. Happy New Year!

I saw it now and I would suggest that it depends on what was meant by “government.”
