Update #3

posted by Susan Johnson | 7:02pm Wednesday January 21, 2009

Well today we went to the hospital- obviously- and she was doing much better. The oxygen tubes were taken out. She even got out of the bed a couple times to go to the bathroom. She was doing well, took a little nap, and was getting blood transfused into her system. She should be able to move onto solid foods soon. She also should be released home within a couple days. Things are looking up.
God Bless.

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight. My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

Glad things are looking up for all of you. Do you mind if I give you a suggestion?
Find the blessing in this. There probably is one. Job isn’t the only Book in the Bible.
Although I have to admit when I had cancer I thought about those verses a lot, myself.

Sarah,
Thanks for keeping us posted! Let your Mom know she is in our prayers.

For months Michelle regaled us with every kind of meanness and naysaying, showing only the most venal and petty interests in life, doing her best to undermine the “other side” of American politics, and here we have people praying for her and wishing her well. Not something she would ever do for anyone who disagreed with her. But maybe if she goes to her Lord soon she will get all that worked out.

Gene, feel free to pat yourself on the back for the “Churl of the Week” award. As anyone who tracks my posting history here will soon discover, I don’t think Michele and I would agree on the color of milk, let alone anything concerning religion, politics, or culture. But unless her picture does her no justice, I’m fairly certain she is human. A human being, exactly like me, who is frightened, suffering, struck by unjust and unexpected misery. A human being with children, family, and friends who love her.
I hadn’t intended to post here, lest given our differences people would feel me condescending, but your post overrode that concern.
If we cannot even recognize the simply humanity of our “foes”, let alone seeing that people are more than their ideologies, opinions, and positions, we are on a certain road to a well-deserved extinction.
This isn’t just failing to be Christian…it’s failing to be human.
May God have mercy on Michele in her illness, on you for your hard-heartedness, and on me in general.

Job isn’t the only Book in the Bible.
No, and I imagine if Michele had her druthers, she’d turn to Ecclesiastes 3:1ff.
JPL said it better than I could, but it’s a matter of knowing what’s important.

I think Sarah may need a blog as well. :)

Are there two Genes here, a nice one and a churl?
Anyway, continued prayers for speedy recovery. Getting up to walk is a big step!

Let us now pray the prayer from the Psalms just as Michelle posted from the Pslams about some Democrat, I forget which one it was last summer:
Psalm 55:15 – Let death take my enemies by surprise; let them go down alive to the grave.
This is the word of the Lord. Let all the Reformed say amen.

Actually, Gene, what Michelle said was in reference to Harry Reid:
“, I’m praying this prayer:
ESV Psalm 109:8 May his days be few; may another take his office!”
You are right, and Biblical, and your comments are fair. And it’s obvious the cancers Michelle suffers are not just physical. But let’s pray that both her haughty sin-sick soul and her body will be healed by a loving God, and she might lead the way for other Reformed Christians to really know Christ.

I was’nt gonna jump in with a comment either, but some of you got me a little uptight here. So I just have to say this to all who have weird wishes for Michele. I’ve known this lady personally for many years, and have disagreed with her on many an occasion, and yes, she does not shy away from an argument. But I have no doubt on her love for people, in her own way, she aches for them and she prays for them, especially for their salvation, most fervently for those of you she disagrees with most. And since we all wear Christ’s cloak of righteousness, I know her prayers are made perfect in His sight, so please if you cannot say something encouraging to Sarah, save it for when Michele is back up and able to defend herself.
Sarah our prayers stay with you and you family, love to your mom.

Gene, if you believe that the manner in which Michele spoke regarding others does not honor Christ, why do you mimic her behavior instead of modeling what you believe to be “proper” Christ-like responses?
Perhaps you should check out Proverbs 25:21-22 for some guidance here, that is if you truly view Michele as an enemy.
“If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.”

Gene Is Right

A twelve year old is old enough to understand that if you write things like:
“We’ve switched places, lefty commenters! Now, at every misstep of the Congress and Obama administration, I’ll be able to point to you and say, “This is your fault, see what a mess your guys have made of our _______” fill in the blank with whatever coming disaster. Oh, I’m really looking forward to that! It’s going to be fun, fun, fun!”
then you can expect some nasty responses when you are down. As for Christ’s cloak of righteousness, news flash, Michelle is naked here. And probably most of her supporters are, too.

‘If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

Leave it to a Reformed Christian to find some way to make sure kindness to an enemy results in their pain.

Gene Not H.

Gene H., I’ll include the “not” in my future comments.
To answer a fair question:
“Gene, if you believe that the manner in which Michele spoke regarding others does not honor Christ, why do you mimic her behavior instead of modeling what you believe to be “proper” Christ-like responses?”
So you recognize Michelle is anything but Christ-like. Good for you.
