Yet another reason not to rely on Jon Stewart as your news source

posted by Susan Johnson | 3:27pm Saturday April 18, 2009

Selective editing:It’s very convenient for the lefties to make this about attacking Obama but the Tea Parties are about the anger the right feels toward the spending of both the Democrats and Republicans (don’t believe me? Take a look at this). There is still anger from the years of pork barrel spending when the Republicans were in control. Why didn’t they have Tea Parties then? They didn’t have to, they got their point across by sitting out elections. But under the Democrats (with support from some RINOs) the spending is so out of control, so many multiples more than what was spent under the Republicans and it looks like it will continue into the foreseeable future that they have to go out and say, “We aren’t happy with what you’re doing.” It’s the only way to let their voice be heard. They are tired of no one is Washington listening to them and mortgaging the future of their kids and grandkids. (via)

One Final Word

Karen, do you live life expecting to renig on contracts? Neither do I. Neither should the United States and we should take this debt seriously.
You’re sort of making a point that Boris attempted – don’t worry about the debt, the money’s not real. You’re saying that we borrowed doesn’t matter because we’re not going to pay it back anyway.

“Yet another reason not to rely on Jon Stewart as your news source.”
The headline is funny considering Michele used Jon Stewart in another blog to attack Obama.
Another hypocrisy is the number of Republican earmarks in the stimulus bill.
One of the biggest hypocrites, Kit Bond (R-Mo), was at the top for earmarks, while Claire McCaskill (D-Mo) has never requested an earmark.
Bond is constantly in the news with conflicting statements in his non-stop attack on Obama.

Julie, commentary does not equal news.
Jon Stewart is a commentator who comments on the news.
A journalist, he is not.
attacking the blogger does not make whatever point you’re attempting to make.

You really have to live on another planet to truly believe that the “tea parties” were spontaneous grass-roots events. They were sponsored & promoted by Fox News and other Righties.
The hypocrisy is overwhelming. For 8 yrs the conservatives said nothing as Bush spent and spent and spent, got us into wars, shredded the Constitution, etc. Only when a Democrat was elected into office did they suddenly become worred about defict spending and civil rights. (And they blamed this all on Obama!) Where were the marches then Michele? You conservatives sat on your butts and said not a word.
As for your claim that you conservatives showed your displeasure by sitting out the last election all I have to say is “Oh please!”. Spare me the nonsense.

Richard is correct.
Considering that the economy is still contracting, many businesses are on the edge of bankruptcy, the number of unemployed are increasing the last thing the government should do is stop spending.
The spending should be more targetted, but Congress makes that impossible by too many things for their state.
I believe targetting energy, health care, and education will provide a better future for the coming generations. In the long run the cost now will pay in the future.
Studies exist that show the extreme cost of emergency room treatment for the uninsured, which we all pay.
It will reduce our dependence on tyrants that control oil – the tryants that Obama would not have to fake respect if we had not wasted the last 35 yrs not doing anything improvements, while voting to give the wealthy the largest share of tax cuts that did not trickle down.
More stimulus bills will be passed.

I watch Jon Stewart all the time. He makes be laugh harder than anyone else in the world.
At the same time I wish he did not make me laugh because the world would be a better world if Jon ran out of material. The supposed news he covers is not journalism.
Studies have shown that Jon’s audience is better informed because the viewer has to understand politics and what is going on now and in the past to get his jokes.
I got a big laugh out of Jon’s tea party video when he screamed in warning, “Do NOT get in the van with that man” in reference to Glen Beck. Not that I think Beck would abuse children physically, but he is poisoning the minds of many, including adults.

So, the point of this post is that a comedian on a network called Comedy Central took a quote from a reporter on FOX news network out of context. The “truth” we are to take away from Fox news is that both Republicans and Democrats are facists. Hmmm…
And, the anger of the right about overspending did not result in protests, but led to sitting out elections. How did that work as a strategy? Did overspending end? Why not continue that strategy now?

Frank Rich is one of the best liberal authors. He is also a journalist that usually does a good job at giving links to sources for facts. I learned a considerable amount from him about John McCain’s history.
As liberals do, he has written a couple recent articles that disagreed with Obama.
I think the Comedy Central programs are relevant because they often point out the hypocrisy or give people a different view of things. It could cause people to think more about a subject.
I also read conservative David Brooks at the NYT.

HiScrivener is correct about Jon Stewart, “He feels it. He believes it. So, he says it.” Stewart is a good guy!
Jon Stewart On Crossfire
October 15, 2004
Stewart clearly demonstrated how relevant he can be. He felt very strongly about what he said. His appearance helped get the Cross Fire canceled.
Stewart criticized the state of television journalism and pleaded with the show’s hosts to “stop hurting America,” and referred to both Carlson and co-host Paul Begala as “partisan hacks.” When posted on the Internet, this exchange became widely viewed and a topic of much media discussion.
Jim Cramer Pt. 1
Stewart received many good reviews for his program with Cramer, including statements about Stewart’s journalistic skills.
Stewart called out Cramer in a way few people can do. Stewart was very angry, but he remained composed, although I have a feeling he would have liked to spit on Cramer.

The prisoners have a good old chuckle once it’s all over, because it’s not torture, dontcha know!
I’d love to get hold of Cheney and give him 183 separate incidents of “not-torture” waterboarding. I’m not advocating torture, mind you, because Cheney has already said it’s not-torture.

Wait… so when Bush took us from that surplus and into debt, that’s nothing compared to this? If you also include that Bush ran out the surplus, then Bush spent much more than the Obama administration. The Tea Parties SHOULD be mocked because they’re trying to parallel it to the Boston Tea Party… an event which all about taxation without representation. They are represented now.
You can’t praise Democracy and then get mad when Democracy doesn’t work the way you want it to. In spite of what looks like, Barack Obama was elected President by the majority if the American people. Why is it when Bush was elected Democrats had to “sit down, shut up and deal with it,” but with the election of Obama, Repulicans are allowed to do anything they want. From calling him a socialist, marxist, communist, terrorist, facist, Hitler (can we please stop with the Hitler stuff… you know who else gave great speeches? Ronald Reagen) and that’s okay. But just about criticism that was thrown at Bush, Republicans were able to act like that particular person was not an American… etc. etc.
Jon Stewart was only talking about how ridiculous it is because there are people going to these protest who aren’t protesting Taxes, but protesting the election of Obama. There are some people who didn’t even know what they were protesting! How can you take a protest seriously when there are a number of people who are there holding up signs that have nothing to do with protesting spending and taxes? When there are a number of people who have absolutely no clue just why they’re there?
