Obama paused to pray while golfing
When I saw this tweet from Mark Knoller: WH says Pres. Obama paused for a moment of silent prayer at 3pm on the golf course to honor America's fallen military personnel. I thought of this: ESV Matthew 6:1 "Beware of...

Praying at a specific time is not any different than a family who says grace - even when in a public restaurant.
When isn't the President in the public eye? I don't recall Michele ever taking Bush to task for his many public displays and prouncements of faith and prayer. How is it that Jesus' words don't apply in those cases?
Michele rather offhandedly mentions he laid a wreath at Arlington. He also delivered a moving and powerful tribute to all those who have served in uniform.
He then went golfing, as did many Americans, and when the hour came he offered up a moment of prayer.
I'm sure that if he hadn't done so, Michele would have blasted him for hypocrisy, impiety, and a lack of respect for the service people, living and dead.
Since she chose to quote Jesus, I will do the same, from the chapter in Matthew preceeding the one she quoted: "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 1In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5: 14-16)
And before she tries to claim I am hailing Obama as the "Light of the World" I will simply point out that Jesus calls upon all his followers be that light.
Here's another Scripture verse for you to ponder: "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor." Unless you have some special window into the soul of the President, who are you to critique the sincerity of his piety?
Here's yet another Scripture verse, from the Book of Jonah, where God is speaking to Jonah: "Is it right for you to be so angry?" Because your blog posts seem to be very angry and embittered.
You tell 'em Michelle. Lucifer honors your anger. And not to upset your Christians beyond your ability to withstand, Lucifer uses those passages for His Holy purposes all the time.
HOW DARE OBAMA PRAY IN PUBLIC LIKE HE WAS A CHRISTIAN!!!! Stopping to give thanks for the lives sacrificed by American veterans and praying God's blessing on their families, such a wretched act by the holder of high office. Every real Christian surely will condemn this villainy. I'm sure you weren't praying at 3 p.m., Michelle.
MzEllen, you surprise me.
I blew off church this morning because I took my kids to the parade.
is that time particularly significant?
Parades in the morning, BBQ lunch. Don't some people even work a few hours first thing? A natural lull in the day's festivities is all.
HOW DARE OBAMA PRAY IN PUBLIC LIKE HE WAS A CHRISTIAN!!!!
I was going to jest this makes it clear he's a Muslim because Christians pray cloistered in churches ... (but they don't) ... and Muslims pray-in-place.
Don't argue "Sermon on the Mount" with Michele ... she's hot on it right now.
I thought of Matthew 6:1-6 when Sarah Palin complained about not having anyone on the campaign trail to pray with her.
I also thought of Matthew 6:1-6 when the religious right was smearing Obama about the National Day of Prayer
FOX News:
"Obama's Decision to Observe National Day of Prayer Privately Draws Public Criticism
President Obama's decision to celebrate Thursday's observance privately has generated controversy among religious groups.
...
"We are disappointed in the lack of participation by the Obama administration," Shirley Dobson, chairwoman of the National Day of Prayer Committee, said in a statement. "At this time in our country's history, we would hope our president would recognize more fully the importance of prayer.""
Mrs. Dobson failed to mention that pro-choice individuals were not welcome by her husband James Dobson.

Actually, God is frequently invoked on the golf course...though often as just the first syllable in another word. I recall caddyiing for my Dad many years ago while he golfed with an old duffer whp loosed a torrent of frustrated profanities and blasphemies everytime he teed off. After several holes, and several tirades, I leaned over to Dad and said, "Why does he even play the game?" My Dad gave me a sideways grin and said, "I relaxes him."
oops...mean to say, "It relaxes him."
I wonder if this blog does the same for Michele?
Actually, God is frequently invoked on the golf course..
Sure. And all the best jokes are set on a golf course ... on a Sunday morning ... and involve a minister, a priest and a rabbi ...
Mrs. Dobson failed to mention that pro-choice individuals were not welcome
They don't pray with sinners.
I was at my usual place across town that morning and, having a few moments, stole into a community church only to find the doors locked and the sanctuary dark.
I asked the secretary why the typical observances weren't taking place and she said, since pastor hadn't even mentioned it on Sunday, she had frankly forgotten about it.
Something about the president not being behind it and no one would be inspired without his endorsement.
This blog is a joke. The President wasn't the only person observing the moment of silence at 3 p.m. today. I guess your next article will be "Obama skips grace over his burger". What an idiot.
If Dobson does not pray with sinners, he would not be praying with anyone.
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER, 2009
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
In Part:
"On this day of unity and prayer, let us also honor the service and sacrifice of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. We celebrate their commitment to uphold our highest ideals, and we recognize that it is because of them that we continue to live in a Nation where people of all faiths can worship or not worship according to the dictates of their conscience.
Let us also use this day to come together in a moment of peace and goodwill. Our world grows smaller by the day, and our varied beliefs can bring us together to feed the hungry and comfort the afflicted; to make peace where there is strife; and to lift up those who have fallen on hard times. As we observe this day of prayer, we remember the one law that binds all great religions together: the Golden Rule, and its call to love one another; to understand one another; and to treat with dignity and respect those with whom we share a brief moment on this Earth."

When I read Michelle's blog I thought of this:
Mathew 7:1, Judge not, that ye not be judged.
I'm just saying....
MzEllen, you surprise me.
Why?
3 P.M. is the time at which Jesus died on the cross, of course. "From the sixth hour to the ninth hour, darkness came over all the land. About the ninth hour [which in the Roman system is 3 P.M., since they counted from sunrise, which is at what we would call 6 A.M.] Jesus cried out in a loud voice....And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit." (Matt.27:45-50). In Catholicism it is a common devotional practice to say a brief prayer at this time of day, especially during Lent. Here and here are a couple of examples. I'm aware, of course, that Obama isn't Catholic, but this may be one of the many salutary customs (such as observance of Lent, liturgical colors, etc.) that has made its way into Protestantism in the last couple of decades. It would certainly be an appropriate tie-in to Memorial Day.
SO, TURMARION, YOU ADMIT OBAMA IS A MUSLIM PAPIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NEXT PLEASE.
Oh my goodness, I can't stand you right-wing, ultra-conversvative religous fanatics. Who cares when or how Obama prayed? Tell me- how in the bloody hell does that affect your day? Does it at all? If Obama wants to pray privately or publicly- thats his choice, I don't see the need to write a blog about it and question his sincereity.
Can you people live one day without yoru religion. Everything big and small is measured by your religious beliefs... it's pathetic. There is more to life than the words of a few God-fearing ancients who lived during the time where there was no science, only fantasy. Please, put aside your stupid beliefs and base your judgement of Obama based on hsi good works and not his faith. Grow up!
So where's the verse about Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
MzEllen, you surprise me.
Why?
What a straightforward example to the contrary. Attagirl!
3 P.M. is the time at which Jesus died on the cross, of course.
Of course.
Those samples are fine but the Little Hours are, uh, more canonical. :-)
Usually I agree with Michelle, but this time.... Was it "a slow news day?"
Our American system tends to make politicians less than saintly. H. L. Mencken said "If a politician knew he/she had cannibals as his/her constituents, the politician would promise them missionaries for dinner."
Let's be thankful our President prays, even if it's only his golf game which drives him before the Throne of Grace.
McGinty didn't have any problem with the previous administrations disgusting displays of public piety, but let a leftist stop for a moment of silence that's being observed all over the country, and the b**** gets all uppity about it.
Hypocrisy isn't a sin if you're one of the elect, apparently.
That's because George W. Bush was sincere in every way about his faith, and Obama is simply covering his Muslim Communist roots.
