CEOs charged for WH lunch

posted by Susan Johnson | 11:37am Friday July 31, 2009

How incredibly tacky! It really makes the White House look like it’s run by a bunch of newbies who know nothing about etiquette.

Four of the most powerful business leaders in America arrived at the White House one day last month for lunch with President Barack Obama, sitting down in his private dining room just steps from the Oval Office.
But even for powerful CEOs, there’s no such thing as a free lunch: White House staffers collected credit card numbers for each executive and carefully billed them for the cost of the meal with the president.
The White House defended the unusual move as a way to avoid conflicts of interest. But the Bush administration didn’t charge presidential guests for meals, one former official said, and at least one etiquette expert found the whole thing unseemly – suggesting it was a serious breach of protocol.

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

I beats paying for lunch for people who are trying to buy your support for no-bid contracts and unrestricted use of non-governmental agencies in a poorly conceived war for family vengeance.

They paid for a lunch at the seat of power.
Was it $25,000 a plate?
No.
Just the cost of the meal.
A meal they had with the President of the United States. I believe one credit card company would call that, “Priceless!”
I’m not surprised such guests weren’t charged by the Bush White House.
After all…Halliburton bought it fair and square with money with the money they got from no-bid contracts.
I’m no CEO, but if the Prez (any Prez) gives me a chance to lobby him or her over lunch, I’ll glaldy pay and not whine that I am entitled to more.

So they use either a corporate or personal credit card and the company writes it off. Big deal.

Eh, I figure these guys can afford to pay for the food, and why not save the taxpayers some money?

There is no longer a concern for etiquette or protocol, or integrity among the political. Why should this come as a surprise to any of us.

Reformed Chicks apparently don’t mind paying for CEO lunches – they just don’t want to pay for health care for poor people.
What a complete B****

My Name, you should not call Michelle a b*tch, even if you put asterisks in the word. Shame on you for elevating her to b*tch status.

I, for one, will not stand for a socialist lunch in MY country. Where are your principles, Michele?
