One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1. She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life. A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments.
The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others.
Through it, I have seen people reach out

reid isn’t the only senator from that state having public opinion problems! from the same article:
but granted, reid is sagging in the polls, largely because his base is unhappy with his performance. only 61% of dems in the state said they would vote to re-elect him. trust me, it’s not because of his stand on healthcare reform. it will depend on what democrat might challenge reid as to where the vote will go.
how other hot 2010 senate races are shaping up (incumbents in bold):
florida (r, no change)
christ (r) beating brown (d)
illinois (d, no change)
kirk (r) beating burris (d)
giannoulias (d) beating kirk (r)
missouri (r -> d)
carnahan (d) beating blunt (r)
new hampshire (r -> d)
hodes (d) beating bass (r)
new york (d, no change)
gillibrand (d) beating pataki (r) (hypothetical… petaki not in the race)
ohio (r -> d)
both fisher (d) and brunner (d) beating both portman (r) and taylor (r)
pennsylvania (d)
specter (d) tied with toomey (r)
with 3 seats currently occupied by republican butts that are now losing to democratic challengers, it looks to me like republicans are going to have a really hard time overcoming their minority status in the senate.

it’s also noteworthy that the poll you cited has “a margin of error of 5 points,” which means that technically reid could be beating both opponents.

correction: tarkanian still beats reid in the poll (barely), with the 5 point margin of error.

To add to AR’s:
missouri (r -> d)
carnahan (d) beating blunt (r)
Steele Doesn’t Argue With Radio Host Who Trashes Boehner And Blunt
A great interview of Michael Steele by a conservative Missouri radio host. Vincent David Jericho repeatedly disparaged key Republicans. Jericho comments were refreshing – too bad there are not more conservatives like him, especially among the media. I give Rod Dreher credit for his blog that takes Republicans to task and has expressed embarrassment at the conduct of many Republicans.
“Midway through the interview, Jericho called the entire Republican leadership and House Minority Leader John Boehner (Ohio) in particular, “an absolute freaking joke.”
“I’m not just some voice flapping in the wind,” Jericho said. “I am speaking for hundreds of thousands if not millions of Americas who are feeling the same way. For God sakes, the Republican Party is supposed to stand for something. Why don’t they stand up and lead. Because some of the leadership with Boehner and some of these other guys are a joke. And you can’t say anything. They are an absolute freaking joke.”
“Later in the interview, when Jericho again set his sights on GOP officials, Steele again was agreeable. This time the target was former Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt and his father (and current Senate candidate) Roy Blunt (R-Mo.).
His [Matt Blunt's] daddy [Roy] screwed around with a tobacco lobbyist,” said Jericho. “Then slips language into the homeland security bill favorable to the tobacco lobbyist. I mean here is a guy that has committed adultery multiple times. Yet he had a senior position, and still does, in the Republican Party. Guys like Papa Blunt make us sick to our stomach. They aren’t conservatives, and they sure don’t reflect moral absolutes the way that we expect the Republican Party to stand up. You had the page boy scandal, you had all of that crap, and nobody stands up to it and says, ‘This is crap! What are you doing?’ Behave like a man — not like, not like little boys who are running around with their little toy and can’t behave themselves.”
To which Steele replied, “Look, now don’t, don’t — I mean, I agree with you. And when stuff gets in the crapper, you gotta clean it out.”

Roy Blunt’s son, former Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt, learned well from his daddy. Matt was a one term unethical governor that did not run for reelection because he would have lost big time.

It would not break my heart to see Reid go. Two words — Term Limits — long enough to get things done, but not long enough to entice the career politicians. Maybe we would get people who work for America, rather than lobbiests or corporate interests.
Michele, believe or not there are many Americans who want the best person for elected office, rather than some who would rather have a bad person in their party over a good person in the other party.

JanS, i couldn’t agree more. unfortunately term limits would force out the possible best person if she/he is already in that seat.
that’s why we have elections on a regular basis, so that the many of us who want the best person elected can actually make that difference. let a better dem run against reid and beat him in a primary (or not).
