Michigan makes a bid for the Gitmo detainees

posted by Susan Johnson | 1:15pm Thursday August 13, 2009

As if this state didn’t have enough problems with the shrinking of it’s population, so bad they’ve received federal funds to demolish parts of their biggest city (turns out it’s good employment for kids and ex-prisoners). Now, they’re making a bid to bring hard core terrorists to their state:

Federal officials will travel to Standish, Michigan, on Thursday to tour a state prison that could be used to house terror suspects detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, U.S. government officials said Wednesday.
[...]
The prison in Standish is a maximum security facility slated for closure. Some local officials would like to see Guantanamo prisoners brought there as a way to keep the prison open and preserve jobs in an area with more than 20 percent unemployment.
[...]

I’d feel sorry for the people of Michigan but they keep doing it to themselves. If they really cared about their state, they wouldn’t keep voting for Democrats to lead them out of this mess. (What is that quote about insanity? Oh, yeah)
If you were a terrorist, where would you rather live? I thought Obama was going to treat detainees more humanely?

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

Should just turn Detroit into a prison colony, like Escape from New York. Wall the place in and dump em there, the place is practically a wreck already.

They need to go somewhere. Why not Michigan? Why not anywhere?
A Kansas prison currently contains pro-life terrorist Scott Roeder. Prisons in Colorado contain other pro-life terrorists like Eric Rudolph and white supremacists/Christian Identity members. So how are the people being held illegally at Gitmo different?

“I have an EX-cel-lent plan.”
The US gov. should take a healthy chunk of Cheney’s land in Wyoming by eminent domain and put the prison there. After all, he wanted these guys held, so why not hold them where he can keep an eye on them. Wyoming is desolate enough to make escape unattractive but still accessible by land and air. Surely the foolks in WY could use the work building this place. Darth Cheney was soo keen on this whole thing – and has the blood of so many people on his hands already – that this seems more than fitting.
“Smithers! Make it happen!”
