One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1. She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life. A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments.
The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others.
Through it, I have seen people reach out

See, exactly what I and others have been saying. It is NOT Republicans thwarting Obama’s socialism efforts…it is his own party!
posted September 29, 2009 at 9:52 pm
wow, pouty! your comment is loaded with ignorance!
only a complete nincompoop would think that this is anything that resembles socialism. but that’s okay, you’re not alone there, les pouty. there’s a whole bunch of politically ignorant people out there who wouldn’t know socialism if it bit them in the ass. like you, they rely on what limbaugh tells them it is.
did you not notice the words “opposed by all of the committee’s Republicans”? your reading comprehension skills suck.
just how many republicans DID NOT thwart the public option?
posted September 30, 2009 at 12:37 am
anony, you’re so funny. Public option equals socialism. But I don’t really expect you to understand that because you don’t listen to Rush like I do. Heh, heh.
Let me see…which party is in the majority? Oh yes. The Democrats. Well you can do the math, can’t you? If not, tune into Rush tomorrow and he will help you with it, even with half his brain tied behind his back.
Sincerely,
pouty

well, pouty, since you didn’t answer my question…
sure, i can do the math for you! i do this for my 3rd grader all the time!
on the rockefeller amendment:
thwarting: 10 republicans, 5 democrats. in math, 10 > 5.
on the schumer amendment:
thwarting: 10 republicans, 3 democrats. in math, 10 > 3.
stop kidding yourself, pouty. your bad math isn’t rubbing off on anyone.
you really shouldn’t take advice from a druggie like limbaugh – he doesn’t have half a brain to tie anywhere. like i said, only a complete nincompoop would think that this is anything that resembles socialism. thanks for helping to support that statement. seek help for your own good. right-wing nut-baggery will rot your brain.

anony,
Let’s see, you did have a question. In fact you had two of them:
“did you not notice the words “opposed by all of the committee’s Republicans”?
just how many republicans DID NOT thwart the public option?”
Which one did you want me to answer…OK, I’ll answer both. Yes and zero.
Now since you got your 3rd grader involved, I ran your dilemma by my 11 month old grandson. He said to tell you that you should have paid more attention in school, particularly in math and ratios. He said to remind you that the Senate Finance committee is made up of 23 members…he said to type it slowly for you…13 Democrats and 10 Republicans.
He said that since you must have been asleep in math, that what that means is that 10 can never be greater than 13, therefore the 10 Republicans can NEVER force anything on the 13 Democrats. Read that again S L O W L Y if necessary.
He said tell you that the President AND the chairman of the DEMOCRAT CONTROLLED Senate Finance committee are DEMOCRATS and that if they all agree on the health plan that the Republicans CANNOT stop them.
He said tell you that it is obvious to him, an 11 month old, that the problem is within the President’s party and that only an ignorant toddler, like one kid in his playgroup who has Democrat parents, would think that the public option not passing in the committee is the Republican’s fault. But he did understand that you, anony, might still try to blame Republicans since you apparently cannot understand that 13 is more than 10.
Anyway, he says hi.
Pouty

ha! excellent: grandpappy pouty. old and bitter and senile, indeed.
allow me to join forces with your grandchild to see if, together, we can teach an old dog how math really works.
perhaps your grandchild can explain to you how 10 > 5 and 10 > 3. (hint: you can use your fingers if you need to!) this is what we call an axiom in that it needs not be proven because it is a universally accepted truth. however, i have come to understand that republicans and neo-conservative ideologues (redundant, i know) live in a make-believe universe. so if you’re still not grasping these 2 mathematical relations, i completely understand and you have my sympathy.
since your 11 month old toddler has such a firm grasp on the english language you should ask him how many republicans managed not to thwart these amendments. perhaps you can find someone who can actually read to deliver the lesson… and i do hope that his comprehension and retention of information is better than yours.
if he comes up with the same answer as you finally did (“zero”) and realizes that if even just a few republicans weren’t extremist ideologues like his grandpappy, they would have overcome the couple of democrats who, like baucus, have pockets stuffed by the insurance industry.
in education it helps to repeat things for slow learners aka, republicans. so, to tally again for your benefit:
on the rockefeller amendment:
thwarting: 10 republicans, 5 democrats
in favor: 0 republicans, 8 democrats
on the schumer amendment:
thwarting: 10 republicans, 3 democrats
in favor: 0 republicans, 10 democrats
since your 11 month old thinks he understands ratios, have him to show you that the ratio of repubs to dems thwarting the rockefeller amendment is 10 to 5 and the ratio of repubs to dems thwarting the schumer amendment is 10 to 3. democrats are overwhelmingly in favor of both.
looking at it another way, the percentage of repubs thwarting the rockefeller bill is 100% while the percentage of dems thwarting it is only 38%. the percentage of repubs thwarting the schumer amendment is 100% while the percentage of dems thwarting it is only 23%.
the obvious conclusion here is that republicans have the most votes when it comes to obstruction, no matter how you look at it, except possibly through neo-con glasses in their fantasy land.
sadly, ALL republicans (again for repetition’s sake, mathematically represented as 100%) are thwarting the public option and thus thwarting the will of the people.
now run off and change that poopie diaper. and change your grandson’s, too, while you’re at it.

anony, your ignorance exceeds even what I imagined your level might be.
This will be my last attempt to help you understand that the Republicans DON”T have the majority. Obama’s party, the Democrats, HAVE the majority. Mr. messiah himself cannot seem to keep his boys and girls in line.
on the rockefeller amendment:
Protecting the country: 10 republicans, 5 democrats
Favoring socialism: 0 republicans, 8 democrats
I’m so proud of those Republicans. They DO have some backbone.
on the schumer amendment:
Protecting the country: 10 republicans, 3 democrats
Favoring socialism: 0 republicans, 10 democrats
What we really need here is Dems with some backbone.
You know anony, I realize this defeat is hard for you guys. You all thought that with the big O riding in on his white horse to save everyone that we would all be awash in platitudes and flowers and happiness. fail.
But you shouldn’t take it so hard. Your spineless socialists Dems will eventually rahm this through via parliamentary schemes. Of course they will regret it next fall. But they will get it. Because remember, the Republicans don’t have enough votes to stop it. Only Democrats can thwart the scheme (see this post for an example!!) ha!
What I feel so bad about for you is the fact that all the readers of this blog got to see you make such a fool of yourself on such simple math.
But just remember, next time you come to an intellectual gunfight, don’t bring a water gun.
Now back to the diapers.

with respect to intellect… major fail on your part grandpappy.
i had hoped that your grandson could help you to understand even one basic axiom upon which mathematics is founded.
i suppose that ignorance is bliss, and you’re happy as can be in republand where there’s no such thing as corporate greed and capitalist corruption and reality.
aside from your witlessness in the simplest of math, here’s where you fail intellectually, grandpappy pouty. you assume that i don’t know that dems have a majority. you also assume that every democrat in congress should be a drone from the same hive, of one mind. your wet dream is that every democrat would be as simple and like-minded as the lemming republicans who mindlessly follow “the great leader” limbaugh’s lead. you got too accustom to the fascism of the republican congress rubber-stamping bush’s wish list. unlike you, i and most americans don’t consider that a healthy democracy. we showed you that in 2006 and again in 2008.
what i and most americans want is for congress to represent the overwhelming will of the people, and not to play political obstructionists. so when we see a handful of dems who have been bought out by special interests (i.e. health insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies) we’re pissed, but we aren’t nearly as pissed off as we are when we watch your entire party of republicans play childish political games.
if you don’t believe me, grandpappy pouty, just check out the polls. on every issue, including health care reform, obama is trusted more than congress; and in congress, the dems are more trusted than your republicans. you have your shrinking kooky base, but that’s all you’ve got. personally, i revel in watching the american taliban/fascist/republican party continue its downward spiral, intent as it is on destroying itself and making room for a more intellectual party, like greens or reform.
your republican base is so dumb that they think that creating competition in the marketplace equals socialism. republicans may have spines, but nothing attached at the top but their mouths. seriously old man, study up on your isms, you look like an doddering old fool.
as always…
protecting special interests: ALL republicans, 3 democrats
working for the average joe: 0 republicans, 10 democrats
oh, and the next time you come to an intellectual gunfight, maybe you should bring some intellect.
posted September 30, 2009 at 10:17 pm
anony, major fail on your part. I’ll just stand out of the way and let your ignorance shine for all to see.

oh, pouty, don’t disappear again. you were just being taught the basics of math. i do understand your desire to pout and run away… my 3rd grader does the same thing when she’s having a difficult time learning something new. but, there’s still hope!
stand up for yourself. show us that you know what socialism really is. show us that you understand what the ratio 10:3 means. explain to us why you think that most americans don’t trust republicans.
pick your intellect up off from the floor, dust it off and try again.
