Carter: Don’t threaten Iran

posted by Susan Johnson | 10:50am Thursday October 1, 2009

It’s statements like this that solidify Carter’s place as the worst president in the history of this nation:

“I hope and pray that Iran will be induced to permit international inspectors to come in and observe their entire nuclear program, because what they’re doing so far is completely illegal under the nonproliferation treaty,” the former president said in an interview with CNN’s Candy Crowley.
“They have a right to purify uranium and plutonium to use for nuclear power. If Iran is on the borderline, the constant threats that we or the Israelis are going to attack Iran is the best thing to force them to say, ‘Let’s defend ourselves.’ I don’t think Iran has made up their mind what to do, and I think the best thing we can do is engage them and stop making these idle threats.”

Yes, I’m sure they have no idea what they are going to do to Israel. No, they really only want that new facility they’ve been hiding for domestic purposes. And they’re hiding the facility because…? And they’re testing missiles because…(check out this and this and this)? For protection? You’d have to be totally ignorant of the words of Ahmadinejad over the years or hopelessly naive to buy that.

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight. My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

i’m sure you already know this, because you’ve been told many times before, and because you’re so “in tune” with politics and such an authority of foreign policy (you clearly know more than obama and all those former presidents, right?), but ahmadinejad is little more than a puppet and has no authority except that which is granted to him by the supreme leader -the conservative religious establishment.
and if you’re any good with recent history, you will realize that it was bush’s threats against iran that helped propel the crazy conservative parliment and president into power in iran. prior to that, there was a moderate political rule and a growing opposition to conservative hardliners.
carter has a point that is backed by historical fact.
“And they’re testing missiles because…? For protection?”
question, michele – why do we, the u.k., israel, russia, and others test missiles and continue to build nuclear bombs?
i hope that you’re not truly as ignorant or hopelessly naive about the political structure and general support of western ideals by average iranians as you appear from your written opinions on this blog.

Iran’s president is evidently one of the demon-possessed leaders of the East who start the Battle of Ar Mageddon. He doesn’t pay any attention to sanctions, because he’s determined to wipe out Israel.

The Iranian know that Israel already possesses a sizable and deliverable arsenal of nuclear weapons. If they fire off an atomic bomb, the Israelis will respond with several hydrogen bombs. If Israel is attacked using a smuggled weapon, they will know from whom it came and still retaliate in devastating fashion.
An Iranian nuclear attack would also amount to genocide against the Palestianians who live right next door and will be not able to escape. Nor will millions of others in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt.
The simple truth is that even in Iran, someone like Ahmadinijad cannot simply push a button and everyone will just agree to launch what would surely be a suicidal attack that would bring an end to the Iranian state and do nothing the benefit the Palestinians who they claim to want to liberate.
As for Ahmadinijad being a “demon-possessed ruler” foretold in Revelation…well that’s also been Stalin, Kruschev, Gorbachev, Mao, Saddam, so on and so forth.
As for the missile tests…as had been pointed out. WE test our missile, too. And there have been plenty of “bombing fixes everything” neocon pundits who have been urging we attack Iran. If someone was urgng that the same be done to us…would it be an unwarranted and aggressive move on our part to test our weapons?
Prior to World War I, all the major power built up their armies and developed their arsenals while all claiming they just wanted to insure peace. The resulting paranoia made a conflagration inevitable.

It looks like you are advocating an attack on a country that has done nothing wrong. They have every reason to believe we mean them harm and every reason to state that they will not be bullied.
I find this really discouraging and I resent very much feeling compelled to defend Carter. But even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
After Iraq implodes and we are “forced” to re-surge it, and then we invade Iran and destabilize Pakistan, are you aware of the sheer size of the geographical area that we will be trying to control?
And we are in an economic collapse that should make us close all our hundreds of bases overseas. Yet we talk as if we have the option of spanking nations that have no conceivable threat to our national interest. That time is long over.

Anyone who can call Carter the worst president in this country’s history with a straight face is either a blatant partisan hack or has absolutely ZERO concept of history. Or both.
James Buchanan, John Tyler, Herbert Hoover, and Warren G. Harding were far, far worse for this country than Carter ever was. It’s not even a contest.
