Just hours agothis was the prevailing wisdom:
According to GameBids.com, which tracks the progress of Olympic bids, President Obama's decision to appear in Copenhagen and give a speech to the IOC was boosted Chicago's chances for winning.Evidently, Chicago's chances of winning must have been way low because not even Obama could improve them, Chicago lost in the first round, receiving the least amount of votes despite the stirring and persuasive oratory skills of Obama.
Before Obama flew to Copenhagen, everyone was assured that the fix was in and Chicago would win their bid for the Olympics because when Putin and Brown put in an appearance, they're countries won the chance to host the games. Other heads of state realized this as well and put in an appearance:
Other cities also have their country's leaders attending the meeting to support their bids. Not a good year to try and play the head of state card.Spain's King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia and Spanish President Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero are planning to push the case for Madrid, according to the Madrid 2016 bid committee.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was expected to be joined by soccer legend and Brazilian native Pele as they advertise the benefits of a Rio Games.
advertisementJapanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, just two weeks into the job, also planned to be at the vote to demonstrate the government's full backing of the Tokyo bid, the bid committee said.
Well, all I can say is this: bwahahahahahahahahahahaha! So much for our improved standing in the world. Now, the big question is: how does the left blame this on Bush?
I wonder if the Olympic committee wasn't too thrilled that Michelle Obama thought it was such a sacrifice to be there.
BTW, can't say I'm too upset because now the graft will not be flowing in Chicago. What will the slum lords do with their properties now?
Update: This is so funny, the CNN anchor is in shock.
Updated again: Check out the shock on the face of the people of Chicago when they found out that Obama wasn't the miracle worker they thought he was.

What constitutes a "something" country?
The United States, of course. Apparently, no one else matters.
Michael Medved remarked that women's beach volleyball is the main Olympic sport which people watch, and why not have it on the beach at Rio? Of course, leering at the beach volleyball girls is not something that Jesus Christ would do, but most of the Olympic committee is probably not Christian, and the beaches at Rio should bring sponsors....
Oak Street Beach in Chicago on Lake Michigan can't compete with Rio.
Apparently most Chicagoans don't want the hassle of the Olympics anyway.
Michele, you are a disgrace. How can you be happy that your own country lost the chance to host the Olympics? If you hate the country so much, why don't you leave.
As I look over this page, I see an ad from J. Crew and Walt Disney World. As a service to them, I just sent them a link to this blog post. After all, it's only right that they know what their ad is being associated with on Beliefnet.
If they choose to stay here or not, that is their business. But I felt that they should at least know that their ads are being shown on this kind of blog.
This is the contact form on the Walt Disney Corporate Webpage...linked to from their Corporate Responsibility section.

This is the contact page for J. Crew, with their general contact information in the upper left hand corner.

I'm sure that these ads turnover on a regular basis, so as other ads appear here feel free to provide us with their contact information as well. I'm sure that all of these companies would appreciate seeing what their advertising revenue is purchasing.
Of course, while Michele is celebrating, the Obama administration seems to have scored a potentially major victory with Iran.

If all the players follow through (an admittedly huge "if"), this could well diminish or eliminate the threat Iran poses in the nuclear arena.
