Michelle Obama: “As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me”

posted by Susan Johnson | 7:21am Thursday October 1, 2009

Um…who is saying that? Have the lefty bloggers been complaining that Michelle Obama has to make such a sacrifice as traveling to Copenhagen? Maybe it’s her support staff? I know righty bloggers have been complaining about the president leaving in the middle of the crisis with Iran but I haven’t heard of anyone complaining that it was a “sacrifice:”

In her speech in Copenhagen today, First Lady Michelle Obama said her trip to Denmark, along with the travel of her “dear friend” and “chit-chat buddy” Oprah Winfrey, as well as tomorrow’s visit by President Obama, is a “sacrifice” on behalf of the children of Chicago and the United States. “As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me or Oprah or the president to come for these few days,” the first lady told a crowd of people involved in the Chicago project, “so many of you in this room have been working for years to bring this bid home.”

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight. My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

Another day, another regurgitated Hot Air post. How is this kind of content relevant to a Reformed perspective on politics, and why is Beliefnet hosting a blog whose political commentary consists of little more than copied and pasted secular conservative blog gossip?

Because people are dying in Afghanistan and we have asked for more troops, and he has basically shelved the topic for…the Olympics?

I’m gonna take a shot at this one.  The mindless twaddle who troll around this blog drive up traffic, which in turn makes it more desirable for sponsors to advertise here and pay Beliefnet to do so.  A little lesson in free market economics.

… another lame critique of michelle obama for the simple fact that she’s married to a guy named barack obama. your ODS is getting worse.

Clearly she was talking about being away from her children being the sacrifise why make up a story when there is not one. Oprah is of course taking time from her show and the President should be there to help the heads of state of Spain and Brazil are in attendence.

Tim and bill,
Exceptional contributions to the comment thread. Your kindness overflows.
Your Name,
You say you are a “fellow Christian” and you take a shot at Michele and are silent on Tim’s and Bill’s remarks about Michele? Classy!

pouty, i wonder if you would have chastised “your name” above if you had understood that both tim and bill were criticizing the first lady michelle and not michele mcginty. i’m pretty sure that your agreement with them would have earned your silence.
both tim and bill were crude and rude. hence, the dismay expressed by “your name” that the content of michele’s blog lacks the very qualities of “Inspiration, Spirituality and Faith”. my guess is that “your name” was criticizing the blog overall, including tim’s and bill’s comments.
what purpose did michelle’s post serve except regurgitate something she read from hotair.com and to carp about the obamas?

anony (and just why do you not use your real name?),
i’m pretty sure that your agreement with them would have earned your silence.
You fail again. Do you ever get tired of missing so badly?
Had those aforementioned classless commenters said such about the president’s wife I would have responded the same way.
And “your name” is certainly free to make such clear if he was also criticizing the other two classless commenters.

BTW, I find it somewhat amusing how much you seem to hate almost everything about this blog but as predictable as the sun rising each day, here you are again.
Reminds me of my hero Rush (at least my hero according to the one who will not use his real name). Liberals absolutely loathe him but can’t stop listening to him. Neither can they stop talking about him. So amusing.
