Forty below keeps the riffraff out is the unofficial state motto. We also have a pretty low crime rate. But if anyone is considering moving up here, keep in mind that affordable housing is VERY scarce and wages are generally pretty low. A lot of people work two or three jobs to afford the rent or the mortgage. I live in a place I can barely afford and the apartment lot looks like a used car lot because so many people are doubling up in apartments to be able to afford housing.

Still believing that someday, perhaps some far-off day, there will be a media story about North Dakota that doesn’t resort to the frozen wasteland cliche.
In ND, where unlike almost every other state in the Union, we’re sitting on a state budget surplus of over $1 Billion.
