President Obama’s weekly address includes a Christmas tree

posted by Susan Johnson | 11:09am Saturday December 12, 2009

Atheists, I thought I’d warn you in case you were easily offended, you might not want to watch this video:Though, I’m sure some of you won’t even be bothered by the tree (you may even have one up at your house with a flying spaghetti monster ornament?) and have embraced the secular nature of our national holiday, celebrating the time with family and friends, not giving a thought to the reason for the season: the birth of the Savior of the world. Your blood pressure must be a lot lower than your brethren who freak out that they live in a secular nation that celebrates the birth of a major religious figure. Don’t worry, I’m sure that the focus of most families will be on the presents and not God’s gift to mankind.BTW, it’s about time Obama proposed tax cuts to small businesses! But I’ll believe it when I see it. Don’t see how he’ll get Charlie Rangel to do it since he hates giving tax cuts to the “rich.”

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight. My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

Legitimate tax cuts for small business would include tax credits that can be applied to the business portion of the sole proprietor’s FICA (or self-employment taxes) Making over $400 slaps a 15% tax on all net earnings of the sole proprietor in 99.99% of individual taxes, no ifs and or buts.
And, the adjustment to gross income for that tax deduction does NOTHING if the AGI is less than exemption and standard deduction amounts. People are losing money, they need tax credits that cover ALL taxes including payroll.
PS: No proof of birth on December 25th, so your “reason” is incorrect on so many levels… But you CAN see day light get longer by December 25th… Reason for the season is winter solstice. A tree shows there is green life even as the sun wains and other trees look dead.

Oh, Melissa do you actually think that matters? It’s amusing when people keep bringing that up as if Christians haven’t a clue about the winter solstice or that we really think Jesus was born on the day we celebrate. It doesn’t matter that Jesus wasn’t born around this time, since we don’t know when he was born, the church has decided for whatever reason to pick Dec. 25 and that’s fine with me. It’s not a biblical mandate for us to celebrate the birth of Jesus so whatever day we celebrate is as good as any.
Just check the federal calendar and you’ll see that Christmas is the reason for the season :-) And we all know that we aren’t giving presents to celebrate winter solstice.

I wonder if would you care if your husband kept your anniversary on the wrong day, only because it was more conveniently scheduled by a group of other people? Or your grand parents said happy birthday to grand children on the wrong day just because it was a convenient day scheduled as a Federal Holiday.
Your logic fails the smell test.

Your logic fails the smell test.
That’s true for all of Michele’s posts, not just this one.

This is a rather inane posting. Trying to fan the flames of the faux war on Christmas?
Maybe you should note that contrary to the Fox news people, the )Muslim or atheist (at the least, a communist/marxist/fascist would be anti-Christian)President Obama didn’t cancel Christmas. Remember that stupid rumor? No one called them out for the unfounded story — and now that we see trees, Hannukah parties, Christmas receptions, etc., maybe other “journalists” could point out the Fox stupidity?

Chicago,
Naw – no fanning by me. I don’t put up a tree at all. The vid looks like a background for a blue screen… Looks like it’s a pick they just spliced in behind Obama.
But I’m sick and tired of lame comments of “reason for the season” by persons are clueless about what the God of the bible wants..
To the point: Pagan customs to honor a non-pagan God is like taking your wife to a strip joint for your anniversary. Your heart might be in it… but that does not make it honorable. Hey MM, get as mad as you want, but you don’t honor a husband by screwing another man.

Melissa and Chicago 11. I took the post as an attempt at some humor, hence the nod to the FSM. It was also dangling some red meat in front of non-believers to see if they would react.
So I tried to find some humor in the post and not react to the rest of it.

I just read this:
According to this theory, early Christians deliberately chose these dates to encourage the spread of Christmas and Christianity throughout the Roman world: If Christmas looked like a pagan holiday, more pagans would be open to both the holiday and the God whose birth it celebrated.
Despite its popularity today, this theory of Christmas’s origins has its problems. It is not found in any ancient Christian writings, for one thing.
It’s not until the 12th century that we find the first suggestion that Jesus’ birth celebration was deliberately set at the time of pagan feasts
Thus, we have Christians in two parts of the world calculating Jesus’ birth on the basis that his death and conception took place on the same day (March 25 or April 6) and coming up with two close but different results (December 25 and January 6).
