Interesting interview about the Ft. Hood shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, giving a lecture to other doctors at Walter Reed, freaking them out leading them to think he might be a terrorist:
It's funny that the media's narrative of this story, that he had "pretraumatic stress disorder," flies in the face of their own evidence.

And here is the transcript of the prepared eulogy.
I thought this was excellent:
It may be hard to comprehend the twisted logic that led to this tragedy. But this much we do know -- no faith justifies these murderous and craven acts; no just and loving God looks upon them with favor. And for what he has done, we know that the killer will be met with justice -- in this world, and the next.
Props to Obama for reminding the nation of the ultimate justice of God.
I also thought this was good reminder:
We are a nation that guarantees the freedom to worship as one chooses. And instead of claiming God for our side, we remember Lincoln's words, and always pray to be on the side of God.
Absolutely excellent job paying tribute to the men and women who lost their lives by the hand of their fellow soldier:
Here, at Fort Hood, we pay tribute to thirteen men and women who were not able to escape the horror of war, even in the comfort of home. Later today, at Fort Lewis, one community will gather to remember so many in one Stryker Brigade who have fallen in Afghanistan.
Long after they are laid to rest -- when the fighting has finished, and our nation has endured; when today's servicemen and women are veterans, and their children have grown -- it will be said of this generation that they believed under the most trying of tests; that they persevered not just when it was easy, but when it was hard; and that they paid the price and bore the burden to secure this nation, and stood up for the values that live in the hearts of all free peoples.

It amazing that our intelligence community has learned so little since 9-11. They knew that Hasan had tried to contact al Qaeda and yet what did they do about it?
U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News.
It is not known whether the intelligence agencies informed the Army that one of its officers was seeking to connect with suspected al Qaeda figures, the officials said.
Did the intelligence agencies let the Army know that he was under investigation? He was getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan, wouldn't it make sense not to send him there if
he was conflicted about being a Muslim and a soldier and had been in contact with the enemy. Either the Army is totally clueless or the intelligence agencies did not let them know thus repeating the same problem that lead to 9-11: lack of inter-agency communication. Unbelievable!

He yelled "Allahu Akbar!" (God is great) then opened fire on the unarmed military personal waiting to be processed for deployment. He was taken down by a female civilian police office. He's alive but paralyzed. From USA Today:
An Army psychiatrist who had counseled troops and was upset about being deployed to Iraq shouted "Allahu Akbar!" and opened fire on an unarmed crowd at Fort Hood Army base Thursday afternoon, killing 13 people and wounding 30, military officials said.
Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a U.S. citizen born in Virginia to Jordanian parents, was wounded by a civilian police officer responding to a shooting rampage that is believed to be the worst ever at a U.S. base, said Lt. Gen. Robert Cone, commanding general of Fort Hood.
[...]
U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, a Republican from Austin, was briefed by military officials and said Hasan had taken some unusual classes for someone studying about mental health.
"He took a lot of extra classes in weapons training, which seems a little odd for a psychiatrist," McCaul said.
USA Today also notes that Hasan may have posted about suicide bombings on the Internet:
Hasan had come to the attention of federal law enforcement officials at least six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other threats, according to a federal law enforcement official who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case.
The official said investigators were trying to confirm that Hasan was the author of the postings, one of which was a blog that equates suicide bombers with a soldier throwing himself on a grenade to save the lives of his comrades. One of the officials said federal search warrants were being drawn up to authorize seizure of Hasan's computer.
If he was under suspension, why was he being deployed?

BTW, I agree with this guy that Obama didn't handle the tragedy in a very presidential way. He knew the nation was awaiting his words and he gives a shout out? Pretty weird.
But instead of a somber chief executive offering reassuring words and expressions of sympathy and compassion, viewers saw a wildly disconnected and inappropriately light president making introductory remarks. At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a "shout-out" to "Dr. Joe Medicine Crow -- that Congressional Medal of Honor winner." Three minutes in, the president spoke about the shooting, in measured and appropriate terms. Who is advising him?
Update:
Here's more on the police officer, Sgt. Kimberly Munley, who stopped the Ft. Hood gunman.
This is something you'd see on a sitcom:
