Corzine loses NJ election

I'm a little surprised that NJ booted Corzine. I guess I shouldn't have been given our history. We'll take high taxes and massive government spending for a while and then we say, "Enough!" It happened with Florio in 1993 and we did it again last night. Corzine was corrupt, raised taxes beyond what we could bear (NJ is taxed at a higher rate than NY), spent way too much of the tax payers' money (NJ spends more than PA) and caused many companies to leave the state (we have the highest unemployment in the region). And with all that, he promised to raise our taxes again if re-elected.

But Republicans shouldn't look at this as an embrace of the Republican party, Christie was just a viable alternative to Corzine. This is very much a blue state and here's proof:

Despite warnings that harsh economic realities would finally lead to a 'no' vote on borrowing money to fund open space programs, Garden State voters approved the measure Tuesday, albeit by a smaller margin than in previous years.

With 98 percent of precincts reporting, 52 percent of voters said yes to the "Green Acres" ballot question that asked them to approve borrowing $400 million for open space initiatives. More than 1.5 million votes were cast.

There's been corruption, misuse of the funds (we've paid for a parking lot, playground, and a sports complex) and we can't afford it, yet it was approved. This is why I do not doubt that Obama will in NJ in 2012 (barring some unforeseen catastrophe -- tanking economy, etc.).

Though, if I were a House member, I would not dismiss the Christie win as only being about Corzine. Corzine was voted out for high taxes, spending and jobs, Democrats in Washington might want to keep that in mind for 2010. Even Obama can't help you get re-elected (less than 20% said Obama influenced their vote).

Update: Wow! It's so freaky to see NJ that red!

Taxpayers are subsidizing the purchase of golf carts

I'm sure the rich are very thankful to the Obama administration and the Democrats in Congress for the lovely tax credit (between $4,200 and $5,500) that golfers now get on their golf cart purchase:

Some controversy arose as to which vehicles, exactly, qualified. The IRS recently ruled any electric vehicle qualifies for the subsidy, so long as it is road-worthy.

That means the model in question needs to have side and rearview mirrors and three-point seat belts, and be capable of going at least 15 to 25 mph. Meet those requirements, combine the federal credit with similar incentive plans in many states, and many a creative subject of the realm has discovered the government will now pay virtually the entire cost of acquiring a new ... golf cart.

And there's no limit on how many electric vehicles you can buy which has lead to some entrepreneurs buying multiple golf carts to sell later after the credit expires.

Yet another example of the law of unintended consequences. It seems to happen a lot when the Democrats are in power.

Imagine the uproar there would be in the press if Republicans gave tax credits for golf carts. "Tax credits for the rich," would be plastered on the front page of the NY Times and WP. The Democrats are blessed to have such a compliant press.

Michael Moore: "Capitalism is anti-Jesus"

I'm sorry but I'm having trouble taking this guy seriously since he has to be in the 1% of the wealthy, given the amount of money his films generate. So, when he says things like this, I can't get over the fact that he's talking about himself:

I think they exposed themselves to a lot of middle class people who did believe in their system and they showed everybody the Ponzi scheme that it is. It's set up like a pyramid, so that the richest 1% at the top have more financial wealth than the 95% beneath them.
But it's this comment that I find particularly ridiculous:
I started out wanting to explore the premise of capitalism being anti-American, and anti-Jesus, meaning it's not a Democratic economy. And it's not run with a moral or ethical code. But when the crash happened, it added a third plot line: not only is capitalism anti-American and anti-Jesus, it doesn't work.
So, Michael Moore is concerned that our economic system isn't Jesus-complaint? Um...since when has this been a criteria for an economic system as far as Moore is concerned? I wonder what economic system Moore thinks would have the Jesus' seal of approval, the political system that Moore thinks can be used for economics as well? Would that system be acceptable to Jesus? We'll, if you looked at the only nation that God established, you'd see that it was a monarchy under a theocracy. Not something Moore would advocate, I'm sure.

BTW, I thought Moore's brilliance was on display in the answer to this question: How can Detroit by saved? Tear down houses. Yes, that will have a major impact on their economy.

Michael Moore demonstrates the superiority of capitalism

So, in communist countries, I'm sure that the propagandists make decent money but do you think it's at the level of Michael Moore? Would a propagandist's film be promoted by a magazine in a penthouse furnished by sponsors:

Following the Premiere, Esquire shuttles many of the attendees straight down to SoHo to the opening of The Esquire Apartment - a fully decadent penthouse where every square inch is paid for by a luxury sponsor. Hot tub, $120k pool table, $60k home theater, fine food. The only thing lacking was a doormat saying "Welcome To Capitalism."
NBC calls it "ironic genius," I can think of another name for it.

Well, Michael Moore is certainly blessed to live in a country where you can be a hypocrite, cozy up to dictators, and then rake in tons of money from people buying tickets to see your films (which he protects by asking his audience to turn off their recording devices).

Where else can you make this kind of money criticizing your country:
Box office for Sicko: $36,055,165
Box office for Fahrenheit 9/11: $222,446,882
Box office for Bowling for Columbine: $58,008,423
Box office for Roger and Me: $7,706,368

Isn't capitalism grand?

Oh, and btw, here's Michael Moore's backer.
