Jeff Sadosky, a spokesman for U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, said the senator had been told that Malik Nadal Hasan, who has been identified as a the shooting suspect at Fort Hood, was upset about his upcoming deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan.
[...]
A defense official speaking on condition of anonymity says Hasan was a mental health professional -- an Army psychologist or psychiatrist.
ABC News is saying that he was the only shooter and maybe a Syrian or Jordanian. The other two who were detained have been released. It's looking more like a lone gunman scenario and less like a terrorist attack.
"Our fighting men and women - and the military families who love them - embody what is best in America," Obama said. "And we have a responsibility to serve all of them as well as they serve all of us."
"We have failed to give them the support they need or pay them the respect they deserve," the president said. "That is a betrayal of the sacred trust that America has with all who wear - and all who have worn - the proud uniform of our country."
A blast from the past! As Drudge notes this is the two year anniversary of Reid's declaration of surrender. Good thing he wasn't the commander-in-chief at the time, huh? He didn't know what the heck he was talking about! You might want to keep that in mind when you listen to his other pronouncements.
Further evidence that Reid, Obama and Biden don't really know what the heck they're talking about. Too bad they'll be in control of our country in January.
Our military rocks! It must be pretty cool for them to know what they did over there, they gave freedom to a nation that hasn't known it before. That must be pretty cool.
Some good news out of Iraq (isn't Obama blessed that the conversation is on the economy, not how badly he miscalculated the surge and it's effectiveness), the walls that were put up to stop the Iraqis from killing each other...
Um...except for McCain, Bush, most of the Congressional Republicans and of course Petraeus: The troop surge in Iraq has been more successful than anyone could have imagined, Barack Obama conceded Thursday in his first-ever interview on FOX News' "The O'Reilly...
Those are the words of a senior Iraqi official. Here's what else he had to say:"As far as he is concerned, this is Bush's war and must end in lack of success, if not actual defeat." That's the impression that...
They are tired of being pushed around and are taking their security in their own hands:In the five years since the Anglo-American invasion of 2003, murders and abductions have driven about half of the 800,000 Christians who once lived in...
That may not happen even if Obama is president: Iraq is a sovereign country. Not just according to me, but according to George Bush and John McCain. So ultimately our presence there is at their invitation, and their policy decisions...
That's the question of this USA Today editorial. The answer is very easy: he would be crucified by the antiwar wing of his party and Nancy Pelois and Reid would have a cow. They've been saying all along that the...
Can't really argue with that since Obama didn't think the surge would work and wanted to withdraw our troops instead. He wouldn't have been able to visit Iraq because it would have been too dangerous. Thank the Lord he wasn't...
They're hoping that the talk of troop withdrawals is just campaign talk. But if it is, Obama is going to have a very tough term as president. His base will turn on him very quickly and he'll be protested until...
According to this LA Times blogger:The parts that stressed his opposition to the 2007 troop surge and his statement that more troops would make no difference in a civil war have somehow disappeared. John McCain and Obama have been going...
According to the Washington Post. They think he's being just as rigid on his Iraq policy as he's accusing McCain and Bush of being. Well, at least Bush and McCain are willing to listen to military experts, he on the...
Man! This is your ranking foreign policy expert? An experienced VP choice for Obama or his Secretary of State? Don't any of your guys have a clue?Biden said the nation is less safe due to "the President and John McCain's...
So, now that it has become abundantly clear to everyone including the MSM (haven't seen any stories about civil wars in Iraq lately, have you?) and the left (which I know is redundant) that the surge has accomplished the goal...
He's still not saying what he meant by refined and it's surprising that he doesn't get that he has to be careful in choosing his words. His position means something and he can't be imprecise and keep people guessing. If...
I think that we all (those on both the left and the right and even you fence sitters in the center) can agree that this is a good thing: American and Iraqi forces are driving Al-Qaeda in Iraq out of...
So, Obama continued moving to the right to attract the general public by stating that after he meets with military commanders he will "continue to refine" his position on Iraq: "My 16-month timeline, if you examine everything I've said, was...
So much for timetables. 92 Senators can now say they voted to continue funding the war in Iraq. In a 92 to 6 vote, the Senate yesterday approved unrestricted funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that allows continuation...
The Marine who threw a puppy over a cliff, recorded it and then posted it on YouTube is "being processed for separation" (typical military language):The Marine Corps said Wednesday it was expelling one Marine and disciplining another for their roles...
The RNC has created a new website as a repository of their opposition research on Obama.Given Obama’s six-month, 54-contest, grueling up-and-down nomination battle against Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.), the desire for a breather would be understandable. But the Republican...
Pretty pointed ad! When will Obama met unconditionally with Petraeus? (hehe) And even Pelosi has been to Iraq to see what has been happening their since the surge, maybe the guy who wants to be commander-in-chief and pull our troops...
Shocking! I'm sure that's never happened in the history of this nation. He does say that Bush didn't lie but who'll believe that? I don't buy his story, it sounds like sour grapes to me but I knew you guys...
Today we get a chance to reflect on the sacrifice of the men and women who have served our country and have payed the ultimate price for doing so and to be thankful for their service in protecting our freedom....
Talk about making progress in Iraq! This is huge! Did you see it on TV yet? And what's great about this is that the Iraqis are doing it themselves:Some 10,000 Iraqi police and soldiers, backed by tanks, pushed deep into...
I was reading Boars Head Tavern this morning and they linked to this video. I've posted it before but I thought I would post it again because it's so good it makes you laugh every time you view it:...
One of the points of contention on the left was that the surge had to produce political progress for it to be successful and here is Pelosi admitting that they achieved it. It looks like the left just lost a...
Um...I'm thinking the wisdom part is a stretch: Code Pink is now resorting to witchcraft to beef up the number of its supporters protesting Berkeley's controversial Marine Corps Recruiting Center. The women's anti-war group has told ralliers to come equipped...
Good thing no one was killed: A US couple checking their answering machine heard a frightening three-minute recording of their son caught in a battle in Afghanistan. Stephen Phillips, 22, was fighting insurgents when his mobile phone was pressed, causing...
You know, it really is a shame that our military has to hear such elitist crap like this. Millions of people appreciate the job they are doing and know they have sacrificed so much to take such a thankless job...
Yeah, I agree with all three:The reasons for the quiet break with Mr. Bush: spending, they say first, growth in the power and size of government, Iraq. I imagine some of this: a fine and bitter conservative sense that he...
Some really good news from Basra, the women can dress anyway they want and the people can play music again. Freedom has returned!Young women are daring to wear jeans, soldiers listen to pop music on their mobile phones and bands...
Well, it turned out that it wasn't a National Defense University study or a Pentagon study, it was some guy's personal research project and it wasn't about the whole war just a part of it: The Miami Herald story ("Pentagon...
Some more political successes for Maliki and for the surge:Iraq's main Sunni Muslim political bloc has agreed in principle to return to the Shiite-led government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki nearly nine months after quitting the Cabinet, lawmakers from the...
Absolutely excellent question and very scary answers by the candidates who will ignore the advice of the military and do what they want to do. What they are saying is that they don't care that they'll destabilize the region and...
They hope to ride McCain's coattails to victory. The big question is: what coattails?Seventeen Iraq combat veterans are running for House seats as Republicans, pledging to continue the war once in Congress and linking themselves to Sen. John McCain's candidacy...
I bet this might come as surprise if you think our military is hated and that Iraqis would be upset at someone who has said he'd stay as long as it takes. If they wanted the Americans out, wouldn't they...
Iran is still trying to fight a proxy war with us. (BTW, for those of you who don't get why they want to take over Iraq it's because they believe that their messianic leader will come from the troubles of...
Oh.My.Heck! How clueless can you be? They let themselves be used by Saddam for propaganda purposes. Saddam Hussein's intelligence agency secretly financed a trip to Iraq for three U.S. lawmakers during the run-up to the U.S.-led invasion, federal prosecutors said...
The Pope hasn't supported the Iraq war so why pick on a Catholic church? They say for publicity:Six Iraq war protesters disrupted an Easter Mass on Sunday, shouting and squirting fake blood on themselves and parishioners in a packed auditorium....
Can't find guys who would commit to dying for Allah? Guess it demonstrates how far al-Qaeda has fallen in Iraq. I don't know why anyone would think that God would approve of using innocent women as a weapon: Two women...
