Bloggingheads.tv: Robert Wright and Ann Althouse

Here's a very interesting exchange between Robert Wright and Ann Althouse discussing his new book,The Evolution of God. Althouse asks some very penetrating questions of Wright:

I think she's convinced me to read the book. I had originally dismissed the book as a rehash of the History of Religions School but maybe there's more to it than that.

88 year-old anti-Semite shots guard at the U.S. Holocaust Museum

The guard is in critical condition
:
A lone gunman wounded a security guard at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum on Wednesday before being injured by return fire, according to police and a museum statement.

The suspect was identified as James von Brunn, an 88-year-old white supremacist from Maryland, two law enforcement officials told CNN.

[...]

A private security guard and the shooting suspect were wounded, according to officials of the Washington police.

If that guard hadn't stopped him, this could have been a lot worse. Praying that the guard makes it.

BTW, if you search for the shooters name (I had to use Yahoo because Google isn't working for me), James von Brunn, you can see how whacked he was. This post to his blog is pretty heinous, he denies that Hitler gassed the Jews and said that was his worst mistake.

Update: Mark Knoller just tweeted that the security guard has died. Thanking the Lord for his bravery and praying for his family.

Scale model of Herod's Temple

Check out the pictures of a "1:100-scale model of Herod's Temple" that took 30 years to build. I like interior photography.

Obama's prayer note stolen from Wailing Wall

A seminarian stole Obama's note to God that he stuck in the Wailing Wall and then it was published. Don't you think that such a total lack of respect and an understanding of the sacredness of the Wall would cause his expulsion from the seminary? Why in the world would he violate Obama's privacy? For the money? What in the world would publishing Obama's note gain anyone?

BTW, I think Obama's prayer was wise and sounds like something I would ask except for the despair part. I thought that was kind of odd. I wonder if that was related to his critics or his prospects for the election :-) or if he suffers from bouts of depression.

"Lord - Protect my family and me," Obama wrote on stationery from the King David hotel, where he stayed.

"Forgive me my sins, and help me guard against pride and despair. Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of your will."
