Photoshopping for Diversity

It's sad that they couldn't just photograph real diversity instead of inventing it. I think it demonstrates the emptiness of being PC. You want to give the appearance of being diverse when you're not. Like make up, it's something you use to try to fix what you don't have.

(via)

At WTS they could have walked into any classroom and photographed diversity, they wouldn't have had to create it. But the diversity police probably would have thought that there were way too many Asians.

Woman posts Craigslist ad for revenge against 9-year-old

The woman's daughter had a disagreement with another girl, so the woman posts a sexually suggestive ad to Craigslist with the girl's telephone number. And what's worst she's a social worker. She's had to have dealt with abused children while working for the state. How could she have set this girl up for abuse?

According to prosecutors, Margery Tannenbaum posted the ad to get revenge after an argument between her daughter and the girl, who attend the same school in Hauppauge, New York.

[...]

According to Suffolk County authorities, the mother of the girl intercepted calls before her daughter answered. She said she received 22 calls in one day, in all around 40 calls from various men who saw the ad, including some seeking an escort service. After Craigslist was issued a subpoena, authorities said they were able to track the account to Tannenbaum.

And what does this tell her daughter about handling conflicts? That you enact revenge?

Santa Ana residents request lock for their trash cans to keep out the homeless

Oh.My.Heck, people! Let the poor homeless take what you throw away! Are we so cruel that we would begrudge people our trash?

The locks are being tested at the request of residents who lobbied for city protection from the homeless, who were raiding their trash and recycling bins for items with refund value. To be sure, this kind of dumpster diving (or bin burgling) is a nuisance. Residents complain of frightening early morning encounters with homeless men near their driveways or of being awakened at night by barking dogs and the loud clanks of glass bottles.

What's more, bin burgling can have a small but real cost, which is why it's considered a crime in most cities. Santa Ana contracts with hauler Waste Management, which profits from the recyclables it collects. The "theft" of these items comes at the expense of the contractor rather than the city, but if the losses are significant, it could result in higher trash rates for residents. Waste Management is covering the expense of the new bins, which might be placed at homes in other parts of the city if the test is successful.

Oh no! You can't have the residents encountering the homeless, what will they do? How about promising to set aside your bottles and cans so that they don't have to face arrest for going through their trash? How about helping just a little those who have fallen on hard times?

Saletan: Pro-life groups don't really believe that abortion is murder

William Saletan of Slate attempts to make the case that the pro-life community isn't living up to our rhetoric. If we really believed the unborn and the born have equal standing, then we should be like Scott Roeder, stopping with deadly force the slaughtering of babies.

If a doctor in Kansas were butchering hundreds of old or disabled people, and legal authorities failed to intervene, I doubt most members of the National Right to Life Committee would stand by waiting for "educational and legislative activities" to stop him. Somebody would use force.

The reason these pro-life groups have held their fire, both rhetorically and literally, is that they don't really equate fetuses with old or disabled people. They oppose abortion, as most of us do. But they don't treat abortionists the way they'd treat mass murderers of the old or disabled. And this self-restraint can't simply be chalked up to nonviolence or respect for the law. Look up the bills these organizations have written, pushed, or passed to restrict abortions. I challenge you to find a single bill that treats a woman who procures an abortion as a murderer. They don't even propose that she go to jail.

Of course this is a false dilemma. Just because you believe that abortion is murder, doesn't mean that you'd start killing doctors to stop it. It's not our place to dispense justice, that role belongs to the government. I'm not a vigilante and would never become one because that just makes me as contemptible as the abortionist I'm condemning, it makes me a murderer and will put me on the wrong side of the law. I would be the one going to jail and deservedly so.

There may come a day when we start "euthanizing" the elderly because we can't afford their operations or procedures (don't mock, it's already happening in the UK, they just don't call it that) and when they start doing it, I have no intention of taking up a gun and shooting the bureaucrat who denies them their operation. I would do the same thing that I do now, elect legislators who promise to end the procedure by whatever means they can do it.

As to treating the mother as a criminal, we have no intention of doing that, we are more interested in prosecuting the one who is actually doing the killing. If we want to show mercy to the mother, then why can't we? Because the pro-abortion side finds it logically inconsistent? Yeah, like that would bother us. And really, who are they to charge us with being logically inconsistent? It's like the pot calling the kettle black. It is beyond any doubt that if the pregnancy were not terminated, the mother would give birth to a human baby. An abortion terminates life.

A victory for democracy

All of the citizens of California, lefties, the rightwing and the gay community, should be thankful for the California Supreme Court's decision concerning Prop 8. Democracy prevailed! As the SF Gate notes:

California's voters, not its courts, are the final judges of same-sex couples' right to marry. And even if they're barred from marrying, gays and lesbians are not the victims of unconstitutional discrimination.

Those were the two clearest messages in Tuesday's 6-1 ruling by the state Supreme Court that upheld Proposition 8, the November initiative that amended the California Constitution to define marriage as the union of a man and a woman. They came from a court that had seemingly said something quite different a year earlier.

The gay community should be thankful because if they ever pass their own proposition to amend the constitution, it will not be overturned except by the will of the people, not activist judges creating rights where there aren't any. And for now, they can go to Iowa, Connecticut and Massachusetts (and if they can wait until September, Maine and Vermont) if they want to get married. That's the beauty of our system, if you don't like what your state is doing, you can move to one that suits your preferences.
