Safe Place with Ruth Graham

Safe Place with Ruth Graham

Bio

“Transparent” is the word most people use to describe Ruth Graham.

No stranger to heartache, she seeks to provide a Biblical perspective to her journey of faith. She is warm and talks openly about her own need for a safe place as she journeyed through her husband’s infidelities, her subsequent depression, her divorces, her teenage daughter’s two unplanned pregnancies, another daughter’s bulimia, her son’s battle with drugs, and returning to school at age 40.

Although born into the "famous" Graham family Ruth did not feel she had a safe place to unburden the secrets of her life. She felt she had to project and image and wear a mask that she "had it all together". She had to meet others' expectations of her. It was not until a mid-life crisis did that she fully discover the unconditional love and grace of God. Her life's passion is to connect people to that same grace and love she found, no matter who they are or what sin.

Named for her mother, Ruth is the third child of Rev. Billy Graham and his wife Ruth Bell Graham.

Ruth founded the Ruth Graham & Friends Ministry in 2006 and in 2010, The Transparent Church. She seeks to minister God’s grace and restoration to those who feel marginalized within the church and to better equip churches themselves to address the needs of the hurting in their midst.

Ruth is an experienced conference speaker and Bible teacher. She has appeared on a variety of radio and television shows including: Good Morning, America, The Hour of Power, Focus on the Family, Moody Broadcasting, Fox & Friends, CBN, Life Today and CNN.

She worked in publishing for 13 years as an acquisitions editor and for five years was the Donor Relations Coordinator for Samaritan’s Purse. She worked as Major Gifts Officer at Mary Baldwin College. She graduated cum laude from Mary Baldwin College in 2000 and received the college’s Outstanding Adult Student award. She also has an honorary doctorate of Humane Letters from Eastern University.

Ruth has three grown children and eight grandchildren. She lives in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Her life Bible verse is John 1:16.

Ho Hum. It’s Christmas Again…

Christmas seems to have rolled around faster this year. Perhaps because I am older…Yikes! Perhaps it is because the stores begin to put out Christmas items in July and August.  And how many times can you hear “O Holy Night” [...]

Why?

I have watched the news with profound sadness and real questions. Questions are good and natural at such a time. Anger too. Wow. There is just not much to say at such a time. But I think of the message [...]

Entitlements

Found this on a website and it gives one pause: As of November 2012, Jose Mujica, the president of Uruguay, held a unique position—the BBC called him “the world’s poorest president.” It’s a common complaint that many politicians around the [...]

New Traditions

Well, we made it through the 2nd holiday of the season…two more to go. I counted Halloween as the first though I’d rather not! Then Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. I wonder why they all seem to congregate at the [...]

Why the tornado?
The scenes from Oklahoma are beyond imagination. It is hard to take it all in. The massive storm, the fear of those fleeing its path, the destruction left behind, the loss of life, the heartache. How does one even begin? I would imagine you'd just want to sit down and quit. Give up. But from what I

Absolutely. What would you die for?
Recently I heard a politician tell his audience that he would make sure a certain bill was put forward because of the emotional wear and tear on victims of violence. He got applause. I thought about what he had said. Is that how laws are made...because events stir up emotions so we grab something th

Violence!
The news is full of reports of violence. Homemade bombs explode killing and wounding. We are outraged and angry. Sad and bewildered. Understandably. We are so blessed to live in a country where these things are the exception rather than the rule. There are places where this is almost a daily occurre

Suicide
I didn't wake up today thinking my life would change. But it has. Suicide. The word is so cold and ugly. It is so stark and final. And yet it leaves so much behind. Unanswered questions. Unfinished business. Unspeakable grief. The word means "the intentional taking of one's own life". Intentio
