In the Cathedral and In the Laboratory

As our technology continues to increase and science continues to play an important part in our modern lives, the battle between science and religion seems to keep escalating.  On one side are those who claim that religion is merely outmoded superstition and that science will continue to fill in the gaps of our understanding better than religion ever can.  On the other side, some see these advances in scientific knowledge and technology to be threatening and untrustworthy.  Only spiritual introspection, they argue, can give us real truth.

However, both these sides are unnecessary.  Indeed, it is possible to honor God through embracing, not rejecting, the revelations about his nature that science can bring us:

"He can be worshiped in the cathedral or in the laboratory. His creation is majestic, awesome, intricate, and beautiful -- and it cannot be at war with itself. Only we imperfect humans can start such battles. And only we can end them."
- The Language of God, page 211
