Prayer for Burundi

posted by Linda G. Howard

In the 1950′s, my mother spent hours in prayer for our nation.  As she vacuumed, washed dishes or worked in her garden, she would weep for the US and her people.  I believe it was the prayers of my mother and many others that ignited the spiritual renewal known as the Jesus Movement in the 1960′s and 70′s.  I experienced first hand how effective prayer can be in the life of a nation.

A few days ago I received this email.  Of course, I get lots of these type of “junk mail” but for some reason, my heart was touched for the people who live in this poverty stricken nation.  Perhaps you will join me praying for the African nation of Burundi.  Here is a portion of the message from the Luis Palau Evangelistic Association. I want to join my brothers and sisters in Burundi praying for a Christ-honoring spiritual renewal.

On April 6, 1994, two surface-to-air missiles struck an airplane carrying the presidents of Rwanda and Burundi. Both were killed on impact. The attack reignited a centuries-old conflict between the region’s top two ethnic populations, the Hutus and the Tutsis.

In Rwanda, the event led to a 100-day genocide of the Tutsi people. In Burundi, it sparked over a decade of civil war and an endless cycle of ethnic violence.

Although Burundi’s civil war officially ended in 2005, the nation has yet to fully recover. Today Burundi is among the world’s poorest nations. Political unrest and conflict continue to run rampant. Many in Burundi have completely lost hope.

But the nation’s believers are trusting God for big things! Most of all, they want to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with their countrymen. And we’re blessed that they have asked us to host the Love Burundi Festival with Andrew Palau.

Andrew and a Missions team from the U.S. are on their way to Burundi right now!

The continent of Africa has been on Andrew’s heart for quite some time. By the grace of God, he and our team have led festivals in Rwanda and Uganda. Now, we need your help to impact Burundi with the real, life-changing power of Jesus Christ.

One of the key elements of this festival will be discipleship and follow-up for new believers. By partnering with us, you can change lives, impact a region, and bring healing to a nation torn apart by evil. Can you imagine the impact?  Tangible hope where all hope is currently missing! You can make all the difference in someone’s life.

Eating fish
We all know that when you eat fish you will usually come across a bone or two no matter how carefully the fish has been filleted.  We also know that the bones aren't digestible and should be spit out.  Fish bones, in fact, can be dangerous; but that fact never kept me from eating and appreciating

A history lesson
Over the past months, I've discovered the classics from Sir Walter Scott, James Fenimore Cooper, St. Augustine to Andrew Murray.  Of course, most of these volumes were written in the early 1800's.  Unlocking the labyrinth of historical fact wrapped around the old English prose of that earlier cent

A couple of times a year I must dedicate several days to my garden.  I have a small yard.  Therefore, most of my back and side yards are devoted to my garden.  I’m not consistent enough with my yard work to be considered a true gardener; but I enjoy the fruits of my sporadic labors all year rou

My prayers are going out for the poor and struggling people in Rwanda and Burundi. May God bless these people and lead them to salvation. My prayers go out to groups like Luis Palau Evangelistic Association and the folks at Love Burundi Festival with Andrew Palau. They are truly on a mission from God, and are sure to touch thousands of people’s lives through God’s word.
