Yesterday on Facebook Vicky wrote a lovely tribute to her sister-in-law and best friend.  Vicky explained that Patty was always there to help and assist her.  They had given a bridal shower for Vicky’s daughter and Patty had done much of the work.  It reminded me of the many people who work to make Special Gathering of Melbourne and Vero so successful.

During our recent retreat, Ferne Brandt, who is the program director for the Walterboro Special Gathering, transported and supervised her choir members.  She prepared meals and cleaned up a multitude of messes.   Tarah Risher who is the assistant choir director in South Carolina sat through the entire rehearsal time.  She video recorded every minute and provided support for me.  Lindsey Craddock was the baby sitter for the children who came with their parents.  Additionally, Pam and David Gillespie were van drivers and all-around, able crew.  Joanne Semenuck also drove her truck filled with our sleeping bags and luggage.  She helped with refreshments.

Would it be possible to have an effective community of believers without people who labor doing all the actual work?  I often feel a tad guilty because I get to do all the fun stuff like teaching and directing the choir while the rest of the crew is hauling luggage, moving boxes and  setting up tables for the refreshments.

Too often, it is the behind-the-scenes pit crew who insure that every minute runs like clock-work.  When I’m part of the working crew, I find that I do my best work if I know that my efforts are appreciated.  Thank you’s  and sincere compliments make for happy and long term relationships with the people who serve behind the scenes.  While these folks almost never want to be on stage taking a bow, they must know that you appreciate them.

At Special Gathering, we are especially blessed.  We get to work with dedicated and extremely competent people who love the Lord and the people we serve.

Who is someone you are thankful for today?  What are the tasks they perform?
