A Simple Life, a Childlike Faith

An enduring promise

posted by Linda G. Howard

I’ve always been intrigued by Proverbs 25:2 that tells us, “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, to search out a matter is the glory of kings”  (NIV).  For reasons of His own, God chooses to conceal many matters from the world and even his children.

However, most things have been made plain enough.  Here are some of the enduring promises that quietly stroke our hearts with the reality of God’s endless love.

1.  The restorative ability of the earth.  Scientists tell us that left alone, the swamp, rivers, the ocean and the forests return to their natural state.  This speaks to me of God’s ability to restore lives and clean up the messes I make daily.

2.  The miracle of a new baby and the unbelievable love that child brings with her life.

3.  New species of plants and fowl that appear each time there is a severe storm, such as a hurricane.  The landscape of Central Florida has been slowly changing by the hurricanes that have moved through our area.  I marvel at the way this new vegetation not only survives but thrives.  This seems to clearly show the a multitude of ways that God teaches us and loves us.  While he never changes, his ways are varied and many.

4.  How trees turn to face the sun.  Seeking the life-giving  rays, the branches force themselves through hardness and protective covering to be able to have the sun’s light.  Each of us would be wise to spare no expense to find God, seeking him with all our heart, soul and spirit.

5.  How a tree planted by the river seems to grow without effort.  It encourages me to stay close to the Lord and his love.

God’s enduring promises are many but the ones that are glued on the walls of my heart are the simplest ones of all.  He loves me.  He will never leave me.  He forgives me.  He sent his only Son to die for me.

A history lesson
Over the past months, I've discovered the classics from Sir Walter Scott, James Fenimore Cooper, St. Augustine to Andrew Murray.  Of course, most of these volumes were written in the early 1800's.  Unlocking the labyrinth of historical fact wrapped around the old English prose of that earlier cent
