I laughed when I heard the line in this new Obama ad about how he "organized with Christian churches" to help unemployed workers. Normally, just saying "churches" pretty much implies "Christian." But with a chunk of Americans still thinking he's...
Is it any more redundant (and borderline silly) than the recurring use of "Jewish rabbi"?

Church tends to denote a Christian community. However, I have known plenty of professors who say "Jewish Church" when they really mean the synagogue.

Obam will be a great president. Why have we as "christians " taken on the chracter of a right wing radio talking head who might not be born-again? Why have we let the world and the GOP shape our thinking? The world has no respect for right wing christians, because they does not have the love of Christ. Christ change the heart of sinners rather than use them as a sounding board with a heart full of hate. We can help change the world with the love and message of Jesus Christ. There is no salvation in politics. Christians are edorsing McCain who does not profess to be a christian. Go figure? Let's come out of the world, and help share the message of Christ.

As opposed to Unitarian Universalist churches, or Scientology "churches" perhaps.
Umm, a question...

Lj, it appears, through your position, that "right-wing" people, are actually adhering to the seperation of Church and State, and that the Democrats are violating it over and over agian. But I hope you notice, that none of the antagonists and anti-Christian orgs (ACLU, Americans United, gay orgs, etc., etc.,) are screaming about the dems' Christianity. And why should they, no one has to "change" anything about their life or behaviors when becoming a democrat-style Christian. Excuse me, where is the message of the New Testament witness of repenting and changing (for real) in a democrat christian again? Same ol' same ol' is not a Christian doctrine. And it certainly is NOT "change" we can believe in.

That's news to me. Last I heard, he was an Episcopalian.

Umm....
Actually, more Americans would have to change if we followed the Democratic version of Christianity.
- We would have to care for the poor and homeless on our streets, instead of turning our faces away and walking by.
- We would have to care for our environment and work to stem our impact on climate change by driving less (and walking more), stopping our purchases of meat and produce from industrial farms, turning up the thermostat in the summer and turning it down in the winter and cutting down on our use of electricity by getting rid of the plasma TV. And being willing to pay more for products that are manufactured/grown in sustainable ways.
- We would have to protest an unjust war and advocate peaceful methods of reconciliation, rather than flexing our military might and threatening countries that we don't agree with.
- We would have to care about the health and well-being of everyone in our neighborhood, not just our friends and family so....we would have to work toward a day when everyone in the country has affordable minimum health care - not just those lucky enough to work for companies that provide it.
- We would have to give up our accumulation of monetary wealth and focus on accumulation of good works and service to our community.
- We would have to pay attention to ALL the seven deadly sins, in particular Greed, Pride and Gluttony - not just focus on Lust.
Those are the things I can think of, off the top of my head. I actually dislike both parties - neither one really addresses the way I think government should work - but if I have to choose, I would prefer the party that forces our citizens to behave in what is commonly thought of as Christian rather than behaving as they do now - thinking only of themselves and their monetary wealth, ignoring the plight of the people in New Orleans, the Sudan, Iraq, Tibet and China, living in fear of the "other" and selfishly concerned only with themselves and their ability to consume goods and natural resources.

I wonder how many pious Christians have endorsed the religiously neutral McCain mainly because he's a war hero. Maybe what they subconsciously want is a more violent religion.
Oh dear, it looks like I'd better get me behind thee! Presumably the last place I should want to be standing is between people in rebellion and their lord.

Katie - if anything you were saying about Democrats was true - they would already be doing all of these things on their own without waiting until their party members get in office - you do not need the government's permission or urging to help the people in New Orleans - or keep your yard clean or help out the overwhelmed family that lives down the street - get off your butt and be a blessing to them - with at or near half the county as 'Democrat' - these are things you can already bring into being regardless of which leaders sit in positions of power - if you and like-minded people are willing to pay more for eco-friendly products - then do so. If Democrats are all about not eating mass-produced meat - then don't eat that type of meat. Since your party makes up half the country - just all of you doing these things you mentioned on your own would change the country in a few short months - so why isn't your behavior changing anything? Why is it your belief that Democrats have to be in office before you can do these things? You're quick to say that others should be doing these things, but why don't you and the democrats lead by example and show the rest of us how it's done? You don't need an election to do most of the things you mentioned - you have good ideas so start urging all the democrats to just simply put them into practice instead of just paying lip service to them - seriously, Katie - HALF THE COUNTRY THINKS AS YOU DO, YOU DON'T NEED TO WAIT ON YOUR POLITICIANS BEFORE YOU DO ANY OF THESE THINGS - so just do it - That Ghandi quote is "You must be the change you want to see in the world" - it's not "Others must be the change you want to see in the world" - No one is standing in your way - so what are you waiting for?

Ok....I just cant take it anymore. I am going to say it exactly how it is. As a christian, how can you be for saving the environment, but aborting babies? How can you be for basically destroying the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman and say you are a christian? And why does anyone want a system in place that makes us more and more dependent on our government to take care of us. We arent owed a handout....none of us. The only people who should get handouts are the widowed, the(TRULY) disabled (THIS EXCLUDES Alcoholics, drug addicts and the fakers, I do know several stealing medicare and disability from the people who truly need it), and the orphaned...they should get a handout. The rest of us should get up off of our behinds and get a JOB. How can we as Christians vote for any candidate, republican, democrat, etc. etc. who supports these issues. And since I am on a roll, the democrats want the government to have more and more control of our lives.....what kind of government system is this leading to? And all of you people out there who want this socialist healthcare, are you absolutely crazy? Ask the Canadians how long they have to sit in a waiting room to see a doctor or how long they have to wait to even get an appointment. And how many people are going to want to go to medical school, have $200,000 in student loans to pay back only to work extra long hours for minimal pay. I can hear all of you left wingers out there saying "but thats not why you should be a doctor, JUST for the money" and of course thats not why you should be a doctor, however, if you spend years, and i mean years, in medical school, pay out the bootie financially and give up any home life for years with your family, you should get some extra compensation. I know I am going to get alot of hateful responses because of this posting, but I dont care. And one more thing..... Please dont vote for Obama just so we will have our first black president. There are many honorable, intelligent, hardworking black men and women out there who would make a wonderful president, but this guy is just not one of them.
