what do you make of the fact that Washington refused all last rights or religious pomp upon his death.
refused even to take communion?
i really don’t think that Washington truly believed that God had somehow influenced some particular or identifiable problem faced by the new America.
is there anything concrete to suggest this is not merely window dressing, rhetorical flourish…
