How come evolution didn't wipe out the fainting goats? Seems like this wouldn't be such a good trait to have survival-wise.

Not a good trait for natural selection. But a great trait for selective breeding. They're easier to catch for milking -- or slaughter.
Evolution may not have had a chance to eliminate this mutation.
It's most likely it occurred in domesticated animals, and humans haven't removed it. And Sotto Voce's comment demonstrates why.
