The political prognostication website 538.com explains that Obama's supporters are more enthusiastic than McCains and suggests that the solution for McCain might be to put Mike Huckabee on the ticket to rev up evangelicals. "It's certainly the simplest and most...
I enjoyed reading your post but I disagree due to several reasons.
1) Mike Huckebee don't even understand the basics of constitutional requirements of war and proved his lack of understanding during the the Dearborn, MI GOP debate. The moderator asked if war was required if he would consult congress to obtain the conditional requirement for troop action. Gov. Huckabee never offered a firm reply but instead a political reply. Mitt's was ever worse stating he would check with his lawyers. Only one candidate presented the correct answer.
2) Mike presented to my fellow Christians the case for support of his pro-life position However, after further review of Gov. Huckabees actions in has produced a number of documents which proves Huckabee isn't as pro-life as he suggests. In fact he signed off on spending bills in support of state related abortions. In other words he was dishonest with his supporters.....
3) Huckabee's economic plan is a plan for additionally financial disaster.
4) Mike Hucabee supported Kenneth Copeland who is so far off the mark of Christian principles.
5) Mike Huckabees close ties to the CFR which intends to end all nation states including our own is a disgrace to the American people who understand the vision of the CFR funded scam.
I could offer a list of at least 50 points but I think the five points presented should be enough for anyone to set aside the support of Mike Huckabee for any future run for office and or additional Fox news spots.
Steve, I share the points with respect due to the lack of knowledge that so many fellow Christians have of Mike Huckabee and I'm more then willing to debate the issues presented and even meet with Mike Hucakbee via a live Fox news feed to oppose his intentions.
My personal choice suspended his efforts but I also support Chuck Baldwin for president who is an amazing Christian and isn't afraid to dicuss real issues. Perhaps you should visit Chuck Baldwins site who has won his parties nomination from the largest 3rd party. By the way Chuck is also an amazing pastor who loves the lord and has a deep understanding of our nations issues and his economic plan is the only current plan I would endorse.
It's my hope and prayer that Ron's run for office will awaken Christians as it appears to have already done but really change our party from Big gov GOP members to limited gov.
By the way have you taken the time to study and define what 'FOX" actually stands for?

I'm an quasi-uber-lefty and think that abolishing the IRS would be a good idea. I think it's sad that Huckabee's ideas on consumption/sales tax didn't get a fair hearing.
I say let's eliminate big portions of a meddlesome and intrusive government bureaucracy and make taxation fair.
If Huckabee does get the VP nod, I hope that this becomes an issue again. But, since the Republican Party is becoming a fascist war machine, I'll still be votin' for OBAMA.

Huckabee has this ability to connect with people whether they are conservative, independent, etc and I think that may be key in battle ground states where Huckabee can campaign in these rural small towns and get strong support from former Clinton supporters. Maybe of them are the blue dog Dem type.
Huckabee or Palin would do the most for McCain if he is looking to excite the base and stop Obama's attacks into the Republican base.

Mike Huckabee made more sense this election than all the other candidates combined. The Fair Tax is the singlemost thing we could do to improve the economy over the long-term. It is really too bad that Senator McCain himself has not read the books and insteam depends on advisors to tell him what to believe. The people want the Fair Tax and we are becoming more involved in state elections to make sure we don't elect official who will not endose Fair Tax. This is a bi-partisan vote getting issue. I don't know where Senator McCain is coming from here. Huckabee health care plan was one that will get medical more competitive and allow for preventive care instead of waiting for catastrophic illnesses that are more expensive to treat. He was strong but fair on immigration, strong on military, and believed in taking care of the environment without going crazy on global warming. He has a huge appeal with the heartland/blue collar folks. Black republicans have always like him and we know he has the conservatives and evangelicals tight. He is the ONLY candidate out there who is not boring, generates excitement in the party and makes us BELIEVE in ourselves and our party to actually win this election.

"In other words, he may not appeal to James Dobson"
Huckabee appealed to James Dobson enough to earn his endorsement rather late in the race. The biggest problem was the many religious leaders that didn't endorse him because they felt he was "unelectable." Some of the leaders have blind sheep that followed them. Huckabee's supporters were mostly those of us that took the time to do our own research rather than relying on the media or conservative leaders. Huckabee sure didn't have the money or staff to get his message out. His grassroots supporters volunteered their services. McCain will get more votes per buck with Huck! McCain/Huckabee '08 sounds great!

McCain has to decide, do I care what the voters want, or do I care what the Republican establishment wants? If he is the maverick he says he is, then he will choose Huckabee-because the voters liked him. The Bush/Rove/Hannity/Limbaugh/Foxnews establishment want Romney. If McCain goes with Romney, the democrats will show youtube video clips constantly showing Romney distorting the facts on McCain, and Romney's flipflops on the social issues. This will make Romney look bad, and the social cons of the party will not work for McCain nor will they vote for him. If McCain goes with Huckabee, Huckabee can point out all of the negatives about Obama, but in a way that does not offend. He can point out Obama's stand on partial birth abortion, gay marriage, war in Iraq, and the economy by making you want to vote for McCain-clarifying McCain's policies in a way that McCain cannot,- and not just voting against Obama. Huckabee will also inspire all of his supporters and others to work hard to get McCain elected. McCain has a tough decision to make, lets hope he gets it Right.

Some Evangelical "leaders" did not support Huckabee because they were too concerned with preserving their seats at the Washington power table. This was shown by their refusal to support him even when he showed himself to be electable after winning Iowa (being outspent 15-1 by Romney). The Republican party is run by the fiscal cons who throw the social conservatives under the bus without flinching. I was so disappointed by Rush, Hannity, Ingraham. They distorted Huckabee's record so shamefully to pave the way for their buddy Mitt Romney but instead got McCain.
The reason Huckabee would be a good VP choice is because he motivates the Christian voters. If McCain chooses someone else, I think many Christians won't bother to vote. If he chooses Romney for VP, I can't in good conscience vote for McCain- Romney is one of the most deceitful politicians I've ever seen. I'll sit out this one and wait for 2012.

Even if Huckabee is McCain's running mate, I'm casting a write-in vote for him in November because he's the only candidate that took a solid stand on moral issues. Obama is guaranteed to win my state anyway, so I have a clear conscience to use my vote that way in order to send a message to the GOP that the moral issues are what I vote for.
Rush Limbaugh didn't like him, nor did The Wall Street Journal types, nor did many other evangelical leaders
Since when have Rush Limbaugh or the WSJ been "evangelical leaders?" ;-)

I have been a volunteer for hucksarmy since early January ane am still actively working to support Huckabee in WHATEVER he decides to do. As someone who as talked with thousands of voters on the phone and in person, I can tell you that Huckabee's appeal far exceeds evangelicals. He has a mix of supporters as diverse as the population itself, and to fail to recognize this is both a dissevice to Huckabee and to the country itself. Huckabee had much more to his campaign than the Right to Life and being against same sex marriage. He was the candidate who made the most sense on the economy, health care, immigration, and agreed with McCain on strong military and IRAQ. He was gutsy enough to endorse the FAIR TAX, a bi-partisan tax plan that would have a positive impact on the economy and has huge support in the field. I thought McCain would pick up on this but maybe he thinks it won't sit too well with the "Wall Street crowd" who wouldn't like the transparency of the plan....

I don't think you should underestimate Huckabee, but now that he is on foxnews doesn't that make him unlikely to be VP????

Mike Huckabee was Governor of Arkansas for over 10 years. He is undoubtedly John McCain's best VP pick!
Survey USA took a series of polls to determine the VP candidate (out of Governor Huckabee, Senator Lieberman, Governor Pawlenty, and Governor Romney) who would help John McCain the most.
They took polls in Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Virginia, California, Ohio, Iowa, Kansas, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Oregon, New York, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Alabama, Kentucky, and Missouri.
In almost every case, Governor Mike Huckabee did best. He even had a slight lead in Massachusetts where Romney was once Governor!
There have been five bellwether states - Ohio, Missouri, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Arkansas - that have correctly predicted the winner of the General Election for each of the past eight elections (dating back to 1976). Of those, in the GOP Primaries, Huckabee won the popular vote in two of them (Arkansas and Louisiana), coming in second to McCain in the other three. McCain won the popular vote in three of them (Ohio, Missouri and Kentucky), coming in second to Huckabee in the other two. The margin between the two in the state of Missouri was extremely narrow. And in the state of Kentucky, Huckabee even managed to come in second to John McCain three and a half months after he suspended his campaign and endorsed McCain.
Governor Huckabee would be a great Vice President. Even Mitt Romney thinks so! At a town hall meeting back in December (before Iowa) he was asked what he thought of Huckabee as VP. Romney replied: "Sure, he’s a wonderful person... He’d make a great vice president."

I believe the best VP that McCain could choose is Mike Huckabee:
1. He actually has experience actually running a govt. (for 10+ years). Neither Obama nor Hillary nor McCain has that experience. It's important!
2. He is a man of integrity and character, whom McCain can trust.
3. He is solidly prolife and profamily. McCain needs to fire up and win over more "social conservatives."
4. Mike Huckabee is STRONG in the South, which is vital. Obama is strong there too. (Romney certainly isn't!)
5. Huckabee, like Reagan before him, is a Great Communicator.
6. McCain and Huckabee get along well and respect each other.
7. Huckabee is young, dynamic, energetic, intelligent, dedicated, and articulate. His supporters are even more fired up than Obama's are!
8. The country will then be in good hands for a long time.
9. During the debates, it was Mike Huckabee who gave the very best answer of what distinguished him from Obama.
10. McCain and Huckabee would balance each other's strengths and weaknesses very well. Huckabee would help McCain in some areas, and McCain could help Huckabee to learn from him in other areas.
