Did Sarah Palin Leave Her Church for Political Reasons?

posted by swaldman | 2:07pm Monday September 8, 2008

Mark Silk asks:
“If Sarah Palin left the church where she was baptized when she ran for statewide office lest people think her a Holy Roller while Barack Obama stayed at the church where he was baptized despite the risk of being considered a black liberationist until his presidential campaign was almost overwhelmed by it, then: 1) Who gets credit for greater political savvy? and 2) Who gets credit for greater spiritual integrity?”

Good Bye
Today is my last day at Beliefnet (which I co-founded in 1999). The swirling emotions: sadness, relief, love, humility, pride, anxiety. But mostly deep, deep gratitude. How many people get to come up with an idea and have rich people invest money to make it a reality? How many people get to create

Secularizing the Cross (Christian Activists: Be Careful What You Wish For)
The Supreme Court heard oral arguments this week, in Buono v. Salazar, about whether a white 6 1/2 foot cross can be displayed in a national park as a tribute to World War I soldiers. Though it's depicted as a classic clash of the secular and the religious, it actually illustrates why Christian act

Reaganite in NYC

Why should we rise to the bait, Steve, …
… and comment on a baseless and unsupported conclusion (that Palin switched churches in 2002 for political reasons) that is made by an obscure blogger (Mark Silk)?
I linked to Mark Silk’s site and noticed that hardly anyone bothers to comment there.

Mark and Steve, I will jump in on this with you. (What the heck!)
I believe she left for Political reasons. She did not want to be connected to a church, that I feel, she felt could have hurt her campaign. This woman has also been connected with a group called AIP-Alaska Independence Party. The party calls for the secession of Alaska from the USA. She recently, in 2008, addressed their convention in an ambiguous form of a speech via video. You can check it out on Youtube for the skeptics. If you do not believe in secession why, as a politician would you ever give a group like that any attention. This woman is dangerous to the Republican party. She should come with a label stating “Buyer Beware.” I would give Obama more credit for sticking with his church no matter how controversial it was or is. She gets no credit from my end since she is one of THE most inexperienced politicians in the country. I don’t care for any candidate, this election year, but I am definitely going to follow the candidates even closer now then I have before. Reaganite was so quick to jump and pounce as if no one is allowed to have their own opinion; no matter how stupid Reaganite might think it is. Everyone is entitled to speak! I had to chime in with my opinion.

got to love Reaganite. The one that claims to be a Reagan Follower but forgets the core values. Like most of the hard core GOP members.
The Democrats have picked up the core values if you were paying attention Reaganite.
“and comment on a baseless and unsupported conclusion”
The conclusion she did it for political reasons is neither baseless or unsupported. You GOP people are such hypocrits. Its baseless and unfounded when its our guy, but its not when its your guy.
