“Some Washington pundits and media big shots are in a frenzy over the selection of a woman who has actually governed rather than just talked a good game on the Sunday talk shows and hit the Washington cocktail circuit.”
Was that suposed to refer to Hillary? Not sure that’ll help win over the Hillary voters.
They seem to feel the media is one of the biggest enemies in America.
The story of McCain’s POW experience is truly inspiring (though I think we’re going to really need to retire the idea that McCain’s campaign is reticent to talk about his POW experience).
“The Senate has always had more than its share of smooth talkers. And big talkers.
It still has.” I’m assuming, “smooth” = Obama, “big” = Biden
“The respect he is given around the world is not because of a teleprompter speech designed to appeal to American critics abroad” — standing ovation. Obama is, in effect, a traitor.
“To deal with these challenges the Democrats present a history making nominee for president. History making in that he is the most liberal, most inexperienced nominee to ever run for President.” Hmmm, not sure that really works. To fail to acknowledge the actual historical significance seems more than a bit pity.
“This is the kind of character that civilizations from the beginning of history have sought in their leaders.”
Biggest applause so far: “It’s pretty clear there are two questions we will never have to ask ourselves, “Who is this man?” and “Can we trust this man with the Presidency?” I guess that would be referring to Mr. Obama?
“And we need a President who doesn’t think that the protection of the unborn or a newly born baby is above his pay grade.” Biggest applause of the night — a reference to Obama’s gaffe at the Saddleback forum. I think he may have lost evangelicals with that one line. Why hasn’t he tried to clarify that?
The crowd here LOVED that speech. It seemed to me highly effective in conveying McCain’s strongest selling point — his character as a POW and trying to tie it to his maverick reputation.
Potential sour notes: implying that Obama went to Europe so he could criticize America and thereby draw applause. This would seem to be in keeping with the comments McCain made earlier in the campaign that Obama puts politics before country. So the slogan, “country first,” obviously is intended to have two meanins — McCain always has, and Obama doesn’t.
I also wonder if the comment that the only thing that makes Obama’s nomination history making is his liberalism will strike people us ungracious and overly nasty.

As a daughter of disabled vietnam veteran, who suffered for years with appalling medical and mental health care and died an untimely death under the care of the VA Hospital system. I am disgusted with what is being promoted at the RNC as Patriotic! PLEASE PEOPLE WAKE UP and VOTE FOR CHANGE. WE cannot have another whole generation of veterans be treated how Vietnam Veterans where and are still treated.
Senator Mccain has not voted for anything that shows even any support for soldiers or veterans. He prefers to keep sending troops back to combat mission in stop loss (see movie http://www.stoplossmovie.com) which increase the suffering of military families and boosts the chances that the soldiers will come home with mental health issues.
Obama has fought for soldier and veterans rights and is working to find ways to improve their health care. Obama voted for the NEW GI BILL and for increased mental health care for returning soldiers with ptsd and traumatic brain injury, Mccain did not vote to support soldiers in these ways.
Our present government is treating soldier’s who have combat related mental illness by sending them back to the field while on psychiatric medications. “When it comes to fighting wars, though, troops have historically been barred from using such drugs in combat.: says Time magazine, not so anymore- soldier’s who have symptoms are given pills and send back out. Iraq war Soldiers have medication and suicide rate that are alarmingly high. read more here: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1811858,00.html
Mccain and Palin, whose son is now serving in Iraq, still have no idea what is like for enlisted soldier or their families, Mccain had top of the line rehab services a luxury most injured soldiers do not get. Most families would not have access to top the line treatment when their son or daughter comes home with a traumatic brain injury and families are put in a position to drive miles to the VA to see their injured soldiers, often losing their jobs while trying to be there at the hospital with their wounded soldier. I also saw veterans die in the VA while waiting over two months for the VA to find time to start their chemotherapy, others who died to suicide due to lack of decent mental health care- the VA is too busy and over run to care for soldiers. Please don’t vote for more of McSame.
Because if your last name is Palin or Mccain your soldier children will not have to wait for care or be given substandard care. It is easy for people who because of their political position or rank to not be in touch with the REAL story of soldiers families, I say this as a soldier’s daughter who lives it. The life I grew up in, a father with ptsd, a family trying to fight for decent care for their own father who has being poorly treated by the failed system like my Dad, and so many other veterans were treated since the Vietnam War…now we are doing to the same to Iraq vets but we have chance to vote for change.
It is easy for politicians to start wars and parade ‘hero stories’ on TV, say they are patriotic and support the troops, but I have not seen any action to support it. Soldiers are dying in IRAQ and soldier’s are dying in failed VA system, I would rather see movies about what is being done to help soldiers rather than old movies of Mccain as POW. As a disabled veteran’s daughter I take great insult by seeing this footage time and time again. Soldiers who come home to live in a failed system of care at the VA for their whole lives and their families who live with this are not done with their mistreatment, nightmare, or war in 5 years- The real heroes are these men and families, but you never see their life stories on tv.
I am shocked that Americans would even consider voting for anyone who has not voted to support veterans and their families by voting no to funding for traumatic brain injured soldiers, mental health care, suicide prevention, and a decent GI Bill to go college are some of the negative actions of this kind of patriotism. It is all words at the RNC as it has been for years. It is the soldiers and their families who suffer when we vote for this brand of shallow patriotism. How can people be tricked into thinking this is ‘patriotic’ to vote for more of this? The real heroes are the veterans and families who survive the negligent VA system, look out for one another, and all the old time veterans who tell me everyday that they don’t want the Iraq war soldiers to come to a life like they had to live.
If people are fooled and vote for more of this, so many more families will suffer while they will sit back in their offices, fail to vote for legislation that will actually help soldiers or veterans, wave their flag, ‘pray for troops’ but won’t give decent benefits or health care to soldiers or disabled veterans (Think Walter Reed Scandal- most VA’s I have seen have same issues as that hospital).
Please think about who you are voting for and don’t let this kind of flag waving patriotism fool you or other young soldiers will die and suffer with substandard care like Vietnam Veterans and many Iraq war veterans and their families live with everyday. The Vietnam War never ended for my family, my father was not given the care that Mccain got when he got home from Vietnam and I speak in the hopes that my story will help people to vote for people who really do support veterans with their actions.
In 2006 Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America gave Senator McCain a grade of D. In 2006 Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America gave Senator Obama a grade of B+. Before you vote in November, please look into how candidates have voted to support the troops and wounded veterans.

Actually I think the frenzy is more over the fact of how she governed, and the ‘spin’ that is being put on the inadequate vetting.
