28% of Kentucky Republicans Believe Obama Is Muslim

Tuesday October 28, 2008

So says a new survey from Herald-Leader/WKYT Kentucky

Republican leader Larry Forgy explained, "I know he's not a practicing Muslim but, to me, his preacher, Jeremiah Wright, sounds more like Malcolm X than Billy Graham."

Even if he were a Muslim...what is the issue? As a Muslim Canadian I often hear Americans talk about whether Obama is a Muslim....like its a bad thing. Being a Muslim does not equate you to being a terrorist. What is so wrong with being Muslim in America?

The media, especially Hannity and Limbaugh, have pushed many lies about Obama and they know the information is false. In many rural areas only AM radio is available. Hannity and Limbaugh's radio programs on AM radio are reaching a large number of people.

Add McCain and Palin's many false statements about Obama it is no wonder belief Obama is a Muslim. Palin, "Obama pals around with terrorist."

It is all a very sad reflection of the morals in the US.

It is Kentucky...nuff said.

And what would be so bad if indeed he was a Muslim?

So much distain for the people of Kentucky- ALL the people of Kentucky.

There is supposed to be no test of religion for the presidency, therefore there should be nothing wrong with being a Muslin. But what kind of Muslim?

Preferably not the kind that have proclaimed that they want to wipe Israel and all Jews from the face of the earth, or the substantial percentage of American Muslims who find nothing wrong with the bombing of London subways, or the kind that fly airplanes into American buildings.

"his preacher, Jeremiah Wright, sounds more like Malcolm X than Billy Graham."

Well, according to a 2007 article in the New Republic, Wright is a former Muslim. (see link)

"After many lectures like this, Obama decided to take a second look at Wright's church. Older pastors warned him that Trinity was for "Buppies"--black urban professionals--and didn't have enough street cred. But Wright was a former Muslim and black nationalist who had studied at Howard and Chicago, and Trinity's guiding principles--what the church calls the "Black Value System"--included a "Disavowal of the Pursuit of Middleclassness.'"
