Good Bye
Today is my last day at Beliefnet (which I co-founded in 1999). The swirling emotions: sadness, relief, love, humility, pride, anxiety.
But mostly deep, deep gratitude.
How many people get to come up with an idea and have rich people invest money to make it a reality? How many people get to create

My Big News
Dear Readers,
This is the most difficult (and surreal) post I've had to write. I'm leaving Beliefnet, the company I co-founded in 1999.
In mid November, I'll be stepping down as President and Editor in Chief to lead a project on the future of the media for the Federal Communications Commission, the

Secularizing the Cross (Christian Activists: Be Careful What You Wish For)
The Supreme Court heard oral arguments this week, in Buono v. Salazar, about whether a white 6 1/2 foot cross can be displayed in a national park as a tribute to World War I soldiers. Though it's depicted as a classic clash of the secular and the religious, it actually illustrates why Christian act

First, there is no such thing as “gay marriage.” There is only marriage. The question is whether gay couples have an equal right to marriage under the law. Second, Obama and Biden support the rights of gay couples to have everything that heterosexual couples do — all the rights, benefits and responsibilities of marriage under state and federal laws — except for the word “marriage.” Why this one word cows even the most progressive people I will never understand. Donohue is a bigot trying to make hay. Biden owes the pope and the bishop NOTHING. None of us owe these bigots a damn thing. THEY owe US.

The homosexual community has hakacte the word “gay” and now they want to do the same with “marriage.” For me it has nothing to do with religion but with the defined use of the word. It is sad when we have to vote on the meaning of a word. Every dictionary I have says the same thing, a marriage is a contract between a man and a woman for the purpose of joining together as one.

I agree with Paul, seeking wisdom. Marriage is a contract between a man and a worm for the purpose of joining together as one.Get a dictionary and look it up and save the court the time and money.

I believe that God is in control of everything that happens. I believe whoever holds the seat of President will not be in charge. God is in charge and he will use them (him/her) to fulfill his purpose on earth. God is still in control. I believe God is the final authority of what will happen in all aspects of our earthly life. God is our sustainer. I will do as God’s Word tells his people, pray for the leaders of the world and trust God.
Who is right? Is it ok to have sex out of marriage? Sarah Palin had her last child by her now husband three months after they were married. John McCain spoke openly about cheating on his first wife. Does moral values have any virtue anymore?
Look at the whole picture not just what you want to see. Either way .. who has ever done what they said that they would do once they got in the White House? Think about it.

Paul and Christine,
“a marriage is a contract between a man and a woman for the purpose of joining together as one”
Gee, that’s odd. Elsewhere on B’net, many anti-gay people say that marriage is a contract between a man and a woman FOR THE PURPOSES OF PROCREATION, even tho they make exceptions for infertile betterosexuals.
It’s called selective fundamentalism, with the emphasis on mental.
