McCain Supporters Combat Anti-Muslim Intolerance in their Midst

posted by swaldman | 3:12pm Monday October 20, 2008

When I saw the Huffington Post headline, “Muslim McCain Fans Confront Intolerance At Rally,” I figured it would be a video showing a mob of intolerant McCainiacs. The video actually reflects very well on most of the McCain supporters featured here:On the other hand, this video would seem to indicate that the use of the Muslim=Terrorism=Obama formula is a bit more common among McCain supporters.

Good Bye
Today is my last day at Beliefnet (which I co-founded in 1999). The swirling emotions: sadness, relief, love, humility, pride, anxiety. But mostly deep, deep gratitude. How many people get to come up with an idea and have rich people invest money to make it a reality? How many people get to create

Secularizing the Cross (Christian Activists: Be Careful What You Wish For)
The Supreme Court heard oral arguments this week, in Buono v. Salazar, about whether a white 6 1/2 foot cross can be displayed in a national park as a tribute to World War I soldiers. Though it's depicted as a classic clash of the secular and the religious, it actually illustrates why Christian act

These are the Real ANTI-AMERICANS. They represent fear, anger, prejudice, hatred and every form of separation that keeps not only America from being at peace but also the whole world. When Obama wins, I have no idea what they will do with all that hatred but I hope they will be forced to confront it and change. Especially when they realize that they are benefitting from the very thing they fought against. These people represent the ugly minority of America but change is coming no matter how they desperately claw to stop it. Change for the better, like our forefathers intended. ALl these bitter hateful words will sour in their stomachs. And maybe, just maybe they will learn how to be better people because of it.

The folks in the 2nd video,
Are the kind of people you cringe at having for neighbors. The kind that are a blight on the whole neigbhorhood.
Always yelling and screaming at each other, egging each other on, feeding off of each other’s ugly side, demanding their own way. Ignorant and terrified of their own shadow, shooting at any defenseless creature just to put their head on the wall. Uneducated, prejudiced against anyone who is not a whiney, selfish redneck just like them. Who believe everything they hear and never admit they’re wrong. Always jumping at the chance to have a reason to get riled up about something or nothing. Bitching about everything but resisting any change. Paranoid of everyone and everything that doesn’t fit into their Joe six pac mold. Bullies. troublemakers always looking for a reason to be angry or fight. Greedy, wasteful and stuck in the tiny confining box in their mind that they think is the world.
McCain and Palin, you must be very proud to have such losers supporting you. You “Aint” getting my vote.

Wow, I didn’t realize how backward and uncivilized some people are. This is the U.S.A? Does not feel like something to be proud of. Acting so immature.
Susan, yes, what will they do with this anger and hatred if their candidate doesn’t win? So sad and upsetting.

In Video 1 it was awesome to see level-headed people at these McCain rallies get together and confront intolerance.
And Video 2?….anyone get the impression these people are merely voting against Obama and not voting *for* McCain?

Video 1: So cool that they got that guy on video. All the major news networks should run that clip so that the whole country can collectively call that dude out for the racist slanderer he is.
Video 2: Angry mob for McCain – they just needed pitchforks and firebrands. It would be funny if it weren’t so sad. The best part was that everyone was shouting out stuff like “Hussein Mohammed Obama” and “Barack Osama,” and that one old, confused lady shouts out, “Osama bin Laden!” D’OH! That made me laugh for about 2 minutes straight. Also glad they got the white kracka on video who is carrying around a monkey doll as a racist slur against Obama. He’s probably a church deacon or something…
This country needs a massive enema.

Video #1 = True Americans defending other Americans rights.
Video #2 = “Real” Americans deviling other Americans.
Because official McCain campaign workers came out and challenged the hate mongers and the Muslim Republicans called him out, he and is team left the area. And did you notice that he would not even give his name? The devil always works in secret, he doesn’t want you to know who he is, and the same goes for his minions.
Ronald Reagan did the Party a disservice when he embraced the red necks and bigots into the GOP. The Republican party used to be the party of the elite, now it has become the gang of fools. (With exceptions) Once being educated and wise was an asset to the office, but the GOP has elected to settle for mediocre and incompetent.
I am glad that at least the Muslim community that endorse McCain have common sense and decorum

The first video was encouraging, but I was scratching my head as I watched the second. I thought it was supposed to be a group of McCain-Palin supporters, but it was obviously a Ku Klux Klan rally.
Poor, fearful, pathetic, and sick.

You made a remark about rednecks, what was the purpose of that? Except to show your ignorance about what a redneck is. Most would consider me a redneck because I live in the middle of nowhere, I have a country accent, and I like to hunt and fish. However, I am top of my class at the University I attend. My G.P.A is 4.0 and I volunteer on a regular basis at homeless shelters and other places. Redneck is not the word to describe those people. There just plain dumb.

So you just assume that McCain supporters are intolerant racists, before you know any facts?
Interesting. That says far about your own prejudices than it does about theirs.

Who’s responsible for all this hate? It’s the media. This is what you get when you spread hate through Islamaphobia. People simply start hating anyone that’s different from them. Instead of blaming these poor “Foxheads”, we must go after the “Savages” who are bringing our country down.

Disgusting behavior! It is hard to believe that in this day and age in America we can have so much ignorance and such uneducated people in our midst! Clearly, we should educate our own people a little more.
Hate can only be spread to those that are stupid enough to take it and not question it. I guess our government is not any different than many other governments (ones that our country puts down all the time??) that count on its people to be dumb and then brainwash them with all the misinformation in the media.

This is after all an election period and I guess the least thing, Democrats or Republicans alike want is to alienate themselves from voters and potential voters from any and every faction of the population.
