Taxation Without Representation for the Religiously Unaffiliated

Wednesday December 24, 2008

A new Pew Center paper reports that while 16.1% of Americans say they're religiously unaffiliated, not a single member of Congress identifies that way. Basically, Christians, Mormons and Jews are, statistically, over-represented and unaffiliateds, agnostics and atheists are underrepresented.

And here's a lovely nugget that will unnerve people who think religious minorities have too much power and delight those who celebrate how religious minorities can thrive in America:

Mormons and Jews as a combined percentage of the U.S. population: 3.4%
Mormon and Jews as a combined percentage of the U.S. Senate: 18.2%
