Good Bye
Today is my last day at Beliefnet (which I co-founded in 1999). The swirling emotions: sadness, relief, love, humility, pride, anxiety.
But mostly deep, deep gratitude.
How many people get to come up with an idea and have rich people invest money to make it a reality? How many people get to create

My Big News
Dear Readers,
This is the most difficult (and surreal) post I've had to write. I'm leaving Beliefnet, the company I co-founded in 1999.
In mid November, I'll be stepping down as President and Editor in Chief to lead a project on the future of the media for the Federal Communications Commission, the

Secularizing the Cross (Christian Activists: Be Careful What You Wish For)
The Supreme Court heard oral arguments this week, in Buono v. Salazar, about whether a white 6 1/2 foot cross can be displayed in a national park as a tribute to World War I soldiers. Though it's depicted as a classic clash of the secular and the religious, it actually illustrates why Christian act

Why are israeli people not standing up to stop this massacre.
It’s horrible and wrong and the whole community is to blame!!!!
4 soldiers injured over 2000 civilians, 45% children and women.
To me it’s clear.
The Jewish people should stand up against the israeli government
and this genocide. If they don’t they will loose all credit for
a long time to come.
Now is your time,.. In front of the eyes of your God,..What action are you taking?
If time is an illusion,.. and the moment is reality.
Every one will get what is coming to him.
Now,.. in the future and the past!!!!

Jews are the ONLY people on earth who have to bear collective guilt for the perceived wrongs of their co-religionists. No other people on earth would be subjected to a post like Mario’s.
The Nazis said the same thing Mario.

Mario if Al Quaeda were firing rockets at your family’s home and schools EVERY day, unabated, would you be ok with that? Would you condemn your own government if they took action to root out the terrorists? Furthermore, while not one civilian death on either side is EVER acceptable, try to stick with the facts. 2000? where does that number come from?

Toby, If we walled in hundreds of thousands of “Al Quaeda” (sic), cut off access to their jobs, medical care, clean water, and food under pain of being shot, would YOU be okay with THAT?
If “Al Quaeda” (sic) walled in YOUR city, cut off access to jobs, medical care, clean water and food, would you fight them?
If a member of the KKK killed 4 African Americans, would the African American community be justified in launching a firebombing campaign in Birmingham in the middle of the day?
Your question to Mario is simplistic, jingoistic nonsense.

Toby, if China was colonizing land in the US and making “Chinese Only” settlements with military backing, both the settlements and China would be fair targets, right? Israel has illegal settlements on Palestinian land…because they aim to steal it.

I feel Israels actions may have caused considerable unseen damage for its long term future. You can see the growing consensus amongst Muslim nations to unite and the possibilty of taking taking military action due to public enthusiasm for that route in the future. 1500 palestinians dead for 15 israelis, there is no justice in those figures and Hamas is still there, still operational and it will replenish its numbers very quickly. Israel on the other hand has tarnished its image and many non muslims in the west can also sense the injustice for the Palestinian people(especially children) who are suffering the most from this ongoing conflict. Israel cannot justify the mass extermination of a population due to a hands of a handful of extremeists who have hijacked a fragile state of Palestine. The wider world is looking on and feel that one day we may just have to look on when the score is settled.

I am well acquainted with the America-Israel Cultural Foundation. They support young artists in Israel, such as a 6 year old studying piano or a 15 year old aspiring dancer. They support Arab artists too, including study of the oud and other Middle Eastern music. They raise their own money and support young kids. Attaching their mission to the misdeeds of Madoff sheds more light on the ignorance of the person who commented than anything else.
