Religious conservatives have been attacking Obama for referring to the Islamic sacred text as the “Holy Koran.”
Robert Knight of Corald Ridge Ministries says Obama’s speech in Cairo proved he has a “low view of Christianity” because, “If you’re a Christian, you don’t regard the Koran as a holy book of any sort. You regard it as springing out of the Old Testament, because it incorporates a lot of the Torah, as does the Christian Bible — but then it goes off into a false religion.”
Putting aside the notion that Presidents often use the language preferred by the practitioners of that faith, I wonder what Knight thinks of George W. Bush’s disdain for Christianity.
On December 12, 2002, Bush said:
“Ramadan commemorates the revelation of God’s word in the Holy Koran to the prophet Mohammad”
On November 15, 2001, Bush said:
“The Islam that we know is a faith devoted to the worship of one God, as revealed through The Holy Qur’an. It teaches the value and the importance of charity, mercy, and peace.”
On November 19, 2001, Bush said:
“According to Muslim teachings, God first revealed His word in the holy Qur’an to the prophet, Muhammad, during the month of Ramadan”

The fact of the matter is, President could teach the Sermon on the Mount in Sunday School verbatim from the Gospel of Matthew and the Religious Right would still find something wrong about it. It’s just more predictable p*** and moan. And, as you imply, they hope that the public has a short memory.

I am an atheist but I also want good, loving Christians to be more recognized instead of the nutty hardcore conservatives like Knight and the AFA. I see how much damage these people do to your cause so you need to start raising your voices louder than the nuts. It is time for real Christians to stand up to the Christian Right and tell them that they do not speak for the rest of you. Believe me when I tell you that the Christian Right is one of the main reasons why Christianity and Christians in general are looked down upon. It’s not right that people lump all you guys together but unless people see another side, that is what they will do.

It is certainly true that the Koran incorporates a lot from both the Torah and the New Testament, as well as Jewish midrash. Maybe whether you consider the Koran holy depends on your view of piracy?

Prez Bush many times uttered some very strange religious things. In 2005 when asked if Muslims worship the same Almighty as Jews and Christians, President Bush replied replied, “I believe we worship the same God.” Strange that few evangelical leaders found any problem with that statement.. no stranger that they found no problem when he called the Qur’an holy. I think that it is simply indicative of this religiously charged political atmosphere.

“Holy Koran” is a show of respect to his audience. If you think being respectfull to others is antiChristian you must have read a different bible than I did. Since I have a healthy interest in religious books would you please post a source for this other bible on this forum.

Isn’t this Knight character the same one that disowned his gay son?

President Bush was silly, politically correct, and sycophantic toward Muslims, too, just as Obama is. No question about it.

When we look at our faiths, Jews, Christians and Muslim; there is no room for hate, war mongering or unjust. It is true many bad things have been done in the name of religion. I think it is high time we all read our Holy books and find common grounds to make better lives for ourselves and bring the best in each of us. The world is a lot different now, we are very interdependent on each other; the new generations have found that; wish the rest would learn from the youngsters.

Obama and Bush did not say “my Holy Quran,” they said “Holy Quran” referring to how Muslims view it. I as a Muslim refer to the “Holy Bible” in the same way, in a way that affirms its holiness to Christians, not to me.
Now, saying that Islam is a false religion is interesting because Islam affirms the God of Abraham and the same precepts of Abrahamic faith that the old testament does. Nowhere does it part from that. If anything, the Holy Quran rectifies inconsistencies that have been introduced since the parting of Moses and Jesus.

Very humorous to read that the Koran doesn’t part from the Bible (Old Testament). Really? Where is the part that ties off with “it was their (Islam’s) right and duty to make war upon them (sinners-that’s us) wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as prisoners.” I have a surprise for you. The Old Testament has been fulfilled with the Lordship of Jesus. He is the completion, and in no word that He has said did he instruct me or any other follower to make slaves of anyone, or cut off their hands and feet, or make war on them. So, you see, there is plenty of inconsistency between the Koran and the Bible. And, by the way, I always just say Bible. God makes it Holy, I don’t. So, neither Bush nor Obama needs to declare its holiness. They are equally deceived. Am I supposed to rejoice in that?

Every man is a sinner. If you are an obama supporter,I don`t think you are a true christian.Bush and his whole family are true christians. They know the true meaning of the bible. They know that god sent is son to die for all of mans sins.Say what you want to about Bush or try to convince any true christian that obama believes in jesus. It won`t work. Obama has no religion that I know of, and I don`t care. God leads the true christian,NOT OBAMA.

I agree that both President Obama and former President Bush wavered as Christians. Either the Bible and the Bible alone is Holy or it isn’t … one cannot describe many texts as ‘holy’ for the sake of being politically correct … Holy is an adjective describing the divine uniqueness of the Lord who revealed His Word and inspired men through the Holy Spirit to report and to record it for all humanity to receive. The message of His redemption through faith alone in Jesus is clear. Jesus fulfills every prophecy of God’s Messiah. He is God’s ‘Yes’ and His ‘Amen.’

Your Name is right.
The Quran has to many to swallow anti Christian and Semitic content. Ordering their followers to search kill and destroy? Quran ,is in deed a take off from the old testament not to say purged. The grate Mohamed has turned it around to desecrate the true meaning and get his own. How can you say anything that orders death, slavery, destruction of life to conquer the world and force people to their belief, can be Holly?
It is time to to read the sharia law and really see what Islam is all about. If you call Holly a religion who agrees with this, you are not only a fool you are anti Christian anti semitic or just a plain Islamic. Most certainly not holly in any way. You are anti life and an insult to Mankind.

They should both be ashamed. I have little to no confidence in either one of them as serious Christians. Any politician that would sell out his faith for political correctness is not much of a believer in his faith.
