Catherine Connors is a mother, writer and recovering academic who traded the lecture hall for the playroom and discovered that university students and preschoolers have much the same attention span. She still dips her toes into academic waters by writing the occasional scholarly article about the place of motherhood in Western philosophy, but mostly now she changes diapers and wipes noses and indulges in long reflections on whether Yo Gabba Gabba is a harbinger of the decline of western civilization. Oh, and she blogs: in addition to Bad Mother blogging at BeliefNet, she is, among other things, the author of HerBadMother.com, Managing Editor of MamaPop, moderator of Her Bad Mother’s Basement, co-founder and co-editor of WeCovet, Contributing Editor at BlogHer, and (deep breath) founder of and contributor to Canada Moms Blog. And in her spare time… oh, wait. She doesn’t have spare time. But she’s okay with that.
So. Last month I started training for the Tiarathon, a half-marathon that will take place in March, two months from now, give or take. I managed about a week and a half of training and then I got sick.
I’m still sick.
I haven’t run in a week. I can’t run; my ears are infected and I have vertigo which makes walking without falling over a challenge, never mind running on ice-slicked sidewalks. That, and the snot and the coughing and the fever and this training thing just isn’t happening right now.
All I can do is hope that this passes, fast, and that toddler-hoisting and vigorous toe-wiggling suffice to keep me from back-sliding completely. Or that fairy-wings and a tiara really will give me magical powers of flight come March.

I hate runnign when my head is full of snot but when I finally motivate myself to get out there I find that the pounding and heavy breathing help to break up the snot and move it out. I always feel better fter a good run. I hope you feel better soon!
